Hey folks!

Found CA a while back and I am finally getting around to putting up my sketchbook. I just want to say that I've been away from art for way too long and it took finding this site and seeing all the amazing talent here to inspire me to start practicing again and eventually become a great artist. The wealth of information I've picked up just in the past few days digging around the site is insane. Until recently I have just sketched with a ball-point pen, so I never worked with color that much, as you can see, but I now have a wacom and really want to learn digital painting. Some of these were done with a mouse before I got my tablet. I know I need a lot of work on anatomy and composition. I welcome any comments and critiques, I will be a regular on this site from here on out.

This is two firsts since I got my tablet: first time I made a random scribble and fleshed out what I saw, and first time I tried to color a black and white image. I could use some advice on coloring over a black and white image, was a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Planning on coloring this later tonight, if anyone has some advice on coloring a b&w image in PS, or a link to a tutorial I could use it.

I love last couple of pieces in your first post. Those definitely stand out as far as character concepts. Your work on the tablet looks great too, but I really can't offer much advice on coloring b&w images in PS... I'm a big PS noob myself. I'm sure you could probably find some sort of tutorial on the internet that could be helpful though. Great SB though, keep it up.

Here is a colored version of the previous pick. Tried using overlay layers to colorize, then touched up over that. It looks a bit darker in jpeg format for some reason, but ah well.. Comments welcome!

Great start. If I might make a suggestion, try putting more contrast into your paintings.

wow. you are very eclectic stylistically. fall is also my favorite time of year. love the cats. you seem to have a natural talent for color and composition.

you know I think the first image is my favorite. It's style seems the most developed and the anatomy is more believable than in some of your other pieces.

@ moosepaws - Thanks to you too! Yes anatomy is one of the areas I need the most practice. It would also help if I started using references more instead of winigin' it hah.

the thing is. once you nail down your anatomy by using references and drawing from life, you will seriously blow us all out of the water, because your use of color and composition is already sick

@ moosepaws: Haha, well I don't know about that but I'll definitely be able to better paint what I see in my mind.

@ miycko: Thanks! COW has really been helping me. One of the worst things is I get artist-block a lot. With COW I'm guaranteed to have something to draw haha. I plan on start Chow soon also.
