A good construction(drawing) will always produce a good painting and it is probably the most important. True?

Not necessarily true if you aren't experienced enough to know what to do with it as far as color, texture, lighting, value, etc., are concerned.

...but I'd have to agree with you here. Trying to save a bad idea or drawing by adding paint is like being proud of how nice and professional your new roof on your house made of cardboard boxes and rat poop is.

well depends what you mean by construction drawing, because when you're painting you're constantly drawing and refining, the drawing doesn't end with the under drawing is what i mean.

I like the roof example.

I am just wondering that if you have a perfect drawing(correct proportions, pose, design), the outcome of the painting will be good even with lousy values, textures and color.

I understand that the painting will not always look the same as the drawing but as long as the proportions of the first drawing is correct, it will still look good. It's just that the design or the features will change.

I tend to believe your image is as good as the worst refined element. Got great poses? Great, too bad the colors suck and nobody can tell what's what anymore due to bad values. Or vice versa.... if an element sucks, you've sold the rest short a bit more than you could have had you refined it further.

No, the outcome will be that you have ruined a good drawing with lousy values, texture, and color.

ah yes elwell is correct, not the most beautiful illustrator, but the most beautifully trained, though my favorite has to be michael curtiz, the director of the sea hawk.
