Over the past half a year I enrolled in the Automotive Design course at my faculty, and I figured I'd put some of the stuff I did up here. Last wednesday we had a poster presentation of the results -basically, we had to put up the posters and then leave the room so they could be judged- and my final mark was an 8 out of 10 so I'm pleased with the results.
Below is the final poster that explains most of the concept, and below that is a bunch of the process shots I saved while working.
The first part of the project consisted of a break-down of the current car and brand, and coming up with a vision for the future (globally as well as brand related). Although it might not seem like much, this was actually one of the hardest part of the project because there are tons of factors that influence the outcome, which is just a single metaphor. A metaphor that is only slightly off could lead to a whole different outcome of the whole project, so it's kind of crucial to get it right.
The next step in the process was to create a concept for the year 2024, based on the vision above.
The 2024 concept is deliberately a bit over-the-top, as it is used to inspire a much more toned down and near-future version for the year 2014. This way, instead of conservatively building upon what already exists this 2014 concept can be reversed-engineered from the future, which should give a much more original design.
Since the 2014 concept of the Saab 9-5 was the main goal of this project, we had more time in the schedule for it. Instead of just relying on sketches and renders, we were required to make a proper package drawing in a 3D CAD program too, so we could make sure the proper amount of people fitted in there along with the engine and other attributes without sticking out at weird spots. The package drawing was also used to base the final renders on.
Anyway, comments and critiques are always welcome. I might invest a little more time in it for portfolio purposes, especially the interior could use some more work I think.

- and my final mark was an 8 out of 10 so I'm pleased with the results.

WEED TORTURE WIN
I enjoyed doing this project, so I might do something similar for myself one of these days. We'll see
