    Semicolonoscopy's sketchbook, yum yum

    Hey there,

I've been lurking for awhile and recently started sketching more, so I thought I'd sign up and start a sketchbook. Most of these sketches are recent, while most of the finished pieces are older. The third one down (I think) of a microphone is a t-shirt design for Design By Humans. I don't know if this is breaking the rules, but if you guys like it and want to vote I'd sure appreciate it. Microphone design

Some of the designs are for my band Brother Juniper. If anyone is into hardcore/metal let me know and I'll link that up too.

I'll update as regularly as possible. Comments and crits are more than welcome.

    Thanks,

    ;oscopy

Hey, thanks for stopping by my SB!
You got some really good stuff here, very stylised.
I think some of your characters seem to have a certain stiffness, but some have really nice flow like the katana dude.
Keep it up and keep posting.

Thanks Rotor. I agree that some of my stuff is pretty stiff. Some, like the spade head guy, are meant to be, but others certainly are not. Here's an inked and textured version of one of the above sketches. I've never really inked in the analog world so the last few weeks have been a lot of fun.

Here's some recent stuff. Haven't been thrilled with my stuff lately, but I like these two pieces pretty well. I plan on digitally coloring the Koala piece. I started inking the face punch sketch...maybe I'll finish it. Comments and Crits always appreciated.

    Ciao

Little Venom sketch from last night. I didn't plan my space very well and therefore lost his left foot. Whoops.

Hey, thanks a ton Monotony! The first beard one and the koala are personal favorites of mine as well.

Here is one I've been working on for the last few days. An homage to a classic. I created it as a t-shirt design, so that is why I used such a limited color palette. Only 3 colors. Also, sorry for the ugly watermark on this one, but I want to be more careful because of where I've posted it. (not here, I swear!)

    Sketchbook update Aug 4

Here is an unfinished Ghost Rider sketch. I'm not in love with it, but I was going for a more contemporary look and it came out alright. Gotta love that flaming head though.

    Update August 5th

Just a quick Photoshop doodle. Anatomy is a little off, but I was messing with new brushes and really liked the result.

Good start amigo, you can only learn by doing and if you don't like what you see than guess what? Its time to acquire new knowledge! How? Do more studies, I suggest the following books: Hogarth dynamic anatomy (revised edition) to start with, don't mind the text as he sometimes speaks in riddles.. just study the book. Its a great book to learn from, a lot of people would also recommend loomis, hell find anyone and everyone that interests you and study from them as well, I never just learn from one book, mix it up! I find it more interesting that way. take some life drawing classes, visit a book store to get a hold of some excellent learning materials, stay away from weak books like Christopher heart and the shietty books. Just keep it up and draw till you pull your hair out than take a break, than draw some more! =-]

Brother Juniper reminds me of the bosses from the super nintendo game "Plok". All of these are interesting, some great, some just plain good. Nothing bad. Keep at it, I'll be stopping in and out from here on out.

JMonsterDesign: Thanks, I think. That was a strangely condescending reply. I bought Hogarth 10 or so years ago, but I find him to be too stylized to study from. Its like studying from a well done comic book. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Marth: Thanks man. I had never heard of Plok, but I looked it up and that is quite an uncanny resemblance.

Alright, this one took forever because I used a bunch of halftones. It's meant to be a t-shirt design, so only 5 colors are actually used.

    Ciao Pals

I'm really into this one. I also have another of this fellow inked and ready to color, but this is good for now.
