Everything looks great and the caricature is frighteningly startling and well done to boot! Nice work!

Hey sketchbuddy, nice studies. Do some more! Definitely liking those. The caricature scares me a bit, haha... keep it up mate!
Hey there !
Pirate guy looks cool and the lady above him, too.
The "warmup" picture is interesting, too, but I'd probably a bit more consequent with the line work, because the outlines look really cluttered. Maybe you should show us some pencil sketches ? I'd really like that.
Keep up the good work ! I would love to see more !
- not much for today, just a quick play around with some splatter brushes i found.. 30 mins...
Hi SSG friend! You've got a nice start. As mentioned the line quality of the warm up poses are abit feathery. The only real way to improve this is to draw a lot, from life preferably.
I can also recommend setting up a sketch schedule / routine, like:
1 page posemaniacs for warm up
1 still life drawing of a random object from your desk/room
1 page of studies from Loomis, bridgeman, kchen etc.
Hey Cuervo
Actually, I think that your most recent picture is pretty decent for a "quick play around". Nice light and stuff.![]()
I agree, that latest splatter brush speed-paint ain't bad at all. The yellow's a bit primary/acidic, but otherwise it's nice. Show me more!![]()
Good stuff so far. One thing I tell a lot of people though, even when it comes to studies is to not "force the issue". Learn to relax, and draw with confidence. Don't worry about messing up, cause you learned something, and just move on after you're finished. You can tell when someone starts getting too conservative about what they draw and things tend to look stiff.

Cheers for the responses guys, keep'em comin aye
@Braintree - i had a go at what you said... ill upload the scans tomorrow
@RoboMonkey- cheers mate, appriciate it
@Ook- now that you point it out im going to have to fix it, lol, its buggin mecheers
@Costau - Took the advice.. got myself a brew and had a go at a speedpaint... loose and relaxed
-5 min Bod study
-Speedpaint of soldier. proportions are a bit off and the lighting is buggered but good enough for a speedy lol
I like the solider.
As for the 5 min body study, my recommendation would be to wait with the skintones and focus only on values (B/W). Use bridgeman/loomies and this site: http://www.mmaphotography.com/ for studying the human body.
I totally have to agree with Fumble. I really like that soldier. Nice play with the lights/ shadows. Looks really cool.
And the body studie: I guess Fumble is right about the skintones. Maybe not the best way to start a study.
The soldier came out nice. The body study has some issues with structure especially placement of the pecks and stomach, but good results for a quick study none the less.
I second fumbles suggestion. just to point out one more anatomical aspect you have to focus on: right now his head is small than his shoulder musclessome bridgeman studies will help you alot.
The last batch are good, but of course better structure = better paintings. Keep focusing on your anatomy studies and everything will improve along with it. That said, I really like the lighting in the soldier pic, it's very dramatic. Diggin' it.
Ooh! Also, think about composition, even in studies and speedpaints. Right now, your soldier is RIGHT in the middle of the page, which makes the piece more boring than it should be. You've got a guy with a gun, some dramatic lighting, push the composition (using the rule of thirds, or golden section, or whatever) and you'll have a much more exciting piece.
Cheers dude!
Hey guys... apologies about thew lack of uploads at the moment but ive been computer-less... however once I can either sort my camera or scanner out ill upload my pencil / pen scribbles... nothing special but they're tiding me over atm.![]()
@Fumble- i agree mate, after looking at the picture again there is alot of work needs doing in the tonal aspects firstly... Loomis time!!
@Robo - thanks man
@Cole - Loomis beakons... lol
@Brain- Ive just noticed that.... damn it..haha
@Ook - I might go back to it and render it properly... after a bit of research on the thirds. cheers![]()
Moar!
moor!
right, managed to get me hands on a camera so's got a few pics from the sketchbook... nothing special, just random... (and i know the perspectives are off but half of them were done on the move....excuses excuses i kno ;p)...
Hey there,
That building kinda stands out. Real good job, man
Keep 'em coming.
yeah those architectural ones are neat. Keep 'em coming! I think you need to worry more about form in your sketches... try to show a bit more three-dimensionality. Right now a lot of your drawings are looking outliney and flat.
I have to agree as well, the architecuture came out good. Try to not pet your lines so much though. It's a hard habit to break, but before doing any work for the day do line and shape exercises concentrating on accuracy. Fill a lot of pages with those.
The first 3 piece is this update really stand out. Keep drawing people like the girl, it'll help you tremendously. Also your showing a good grasp of lines in the radio piece. Keep it coming!
I find your first architecture drawing to be the most successful (the house).
The skull drawing looks a bit strange. Try looking though bridgeman's book or other kind of anatomy books for a better understanding of the skull. Knowing the skull helps a lot when you are construction faces from imagination.
Cheers for the comments guys... appriciated
- WIP i've got going... first painted portrait. Any suggestions of what to go in the background are welcome... my heads fried![]()
Hi Cuervo. For the portrait, go easy on the white, use it only as a selected highlight. You need more mid-tones. Aside from that the anatomy is quite good.
