Hello everyone, you can call me Helen or Fish, or anything that happens to suit you. I'm a 17 year old that is hoping to improve enough to be able to apply for a decent art school, hopefully in the field of concept art or something similar. And now kinda leaning towards illustration, so tips on that will be of the utmost help. : DD

Characterdesigns.com has some awesome photosets to reference from, but it's mostly women. I haven't found a good reference site for men yet. The wiki on this site has a lot of useful links, it's right under the forum header.

I really need to work on my bgm, it looks like some kid drew it with crayons or the likes. : ( Some lame envo study, I ran out of ideas pretty quick.

Okay, I know, extremely late update D: I forgot what I really was doing the whole summer that I didn't update. But! School started again, and I'm kinda worrying alot more about art college choices, as it is my last year in hs and I have to decide soon, so I picked up the pencil and drew a model, my dad, and some classmates that I'll scan later as its at school atm : )

These are all 10 min sketches, nothing that detailed-

Hes the only person in my family that'd sit if not pose for me. Everyone else kept complaining about how I make them look too fat or monkey-like .


And this is a model, her features/lines aren't that great/cut off because I was stupid and bought a hugggee artpad on sale just because it was cheap and forgot that it is a pain to scan in so said artpads as well.

I'll try to do more nude studies/perspective, and as usual and critiques and comments will be totally appreciated!

Andandand, any tips for a illustration based portfolio will be great as well, I'm leaning heavily towards going to a art university of that choice : D

Allright, here are some sketches over about 2 weeks span of 3 minute life drawings to 15 minutes for some of classmates at school from oldest to newest:

3 minutes


15 minutes (Ithink)


2 minutes each pose



5 min for both


3 again



and my most recent two figures

15 minutes


(Assignment/from a ref picture instead, 1 hour)


I tried to speedily draw all of the ones in class as accurately as possible, and my shading somewhat changed.

As usual, critiques/comments are very welcome, and any ideas for portfolio pieces would be great too : )
