I now have a deadline, I need to get competent by september and give in a portfolio to get into A level art (which isn't hard, they let almost anyone in). Gonna double the amount of work I do everyday

I know the mistakes that I've made drawing her face, but whenever I try to fix them I just make them worse x___X

Nice apple, but I would like to see more dark shades on it, as it seems a little flat as is. Try to show the concave area where the stem goes in with some shading, and also it would help to add a ground shadow so it doesn't look like it's floating in the air.

Thanks, I knew I didn't properly represent the light on that apple but I didn't want to mess it up so I didn't add shadows.

The reason why I haven't posted in a long time is because of the summer holidays, stuck in Algeria. Back at school now in sixth form/college (I got into Art, YESSS ) I need to get competent by the end of the school year, so loads of work to do.

Did some quick practice sketches of lips/eyes, I tried to add shadows/highlights and to blend, but it still looks a bit off, can someone point out why?

Welcome to the forums, fantastic start for a complete beginner, showing lots of promise, strive to get your stories and ideas out, no matter the skill level they should shine through. Keep it up and maybe visit the tutorial section, and maybe the daily sketch group and art discussion. Best of luck to ya.

Er, just one sketch since I've been reading up on theory. Andrew Loomis books are amazing, better than my art teacher that's for sure.

Hey man, you sure have been into it, eh?!
I can see clearly upgraded to you anatomy since the first human figure you've posted.
I would also suggest Burne Hogarth books if you feel like being leaned to illustration, Andrew Loomis seems to make use of smoother lines tho.

Went to the national portrait gallery yesterday to pick out some paintings to study for my art homework, going again on wednesday. Didn't get to do any drawing today, history essays =/

I did a few sketches, but mostly I was just wandering around and omg-ing over all the paintings <.< Hmm, I looked at the paintings closely, in the classical older ones it looked like they used light green for shadows, and a mix of red yellow and white for the skin tone, I could be wrong. Sometimes they used a really dark red for the shadows between the lips/in the noses/ears. Guessing again.







^ ...yeah, you can tell that was the first one, I was really nervous sketching in public next to real art students <.< I loosened up a bit later though =B

The head looks a little squizhed together in the horrisontal direction, maybe you should try and make it a little bit wider? Otherwise it looks good, and ignore my comment if you did it on purpose (an alien or fantasy skull etc.)

Ah, yes I noticed that too, no it wasn't intentional >.> Everytime I tried to fix it it just got worse =/

TONIGHT, I will do some figure drawing studies, probably Loomis, and if I have time, start digital painting too, although I probably won't upload those until tomorrow.

Your improving fast! It's brave of you to show your work already. I was 18 before I worked up the courage to post here. Have you tried out drawing on a less toothy paper? Some of your shading is coming out a bit grainy but I don't know if that's the scan or the paper.

Anyway, your doing a great job shading, I love the studies and I can't wait to see more.
