danlambert - Thanks for your constant support and advice danlambert. If there is any improvement, it's due to the help I've recieved from you and others on ca.org

DKHutcheson - Thanks Daphne. I reckon we are all improving. You sure are.

Phade01 - Thanks mate. You and no87 are making the sp thread awesome.

Marian Rowling - Thanks Marian. It's great to look back over the year and it even better to still have heaps of energy to try and learn and improve after the year. You're doing so great, I saw.

No87 - Thanks mate. See above.

danlucas - Thanks dan. I can't draw yet so I go for variety.

This is a copy of a Ruan Jia painting of a bust. I LOVE his work and the bust painting is so cool I thought I'd try to learn from doing a study of it but of course, with my head. Ruan Jia

Some great form and value in this one man, and that guys gallery is insane! I hadn't seen his new stuff!! What is it about these Asian guys that makes them so damn good? I'm feeling racially short changed here, who can I complain to about this?

Keep up the good work sir

Today, during my first proper stay on the forums, I found your self-portrait thread. I'm lost for words! You made a tremendous progress and to be honest, it's very inspiring. So much so, I decided to register on the site straight away, instead of stalling, just so I could leave you a comment. Those pieces are done over a span of a year?

I'm hoping you'll get to see some stuff of mine soon and fingers crossed for an equally good progress.

danlambert - Taa mate. Ruan Jia is my favourite right now.

knoxie - Thanks Carl. Love your work. I reckon I'd like to see a thread of Carl Knox sp's.

Lizzy - Haha, thanks Liz Edwards. You're the best.

kulka - Wow, thanks kulka. Yes, one year. The trick is to just get posting and when someone with a good sketchbook bothers to help, try and listen. I've been waiting patiently since you posted that nice comment. Where are you? I want to see your work, don't be shy.

Yes, I make these lips when I'm drawing.

Dude....that last one is amazing! It looks traditional, whatever you're doing with those photoshop texture brushes is working, unless it really is traditional and then I just quit :p
The values and form look good, and your edge work is nice as well. You need to start posting more often man, we can't miss out on things like this!!!

danlambert - Thanks dan. Haha, you're so polite and encouraging. It's just photoshop of course but yes, I really love seeing the textured finishes I see around this joint and want to try and get the hang of it. I did that one without any filters and just 3 brushes I got from a magazine cd.

Liz Edwards - I love it when Liz likes what I do. Haha

Arish - Hi Arish. That's my drawing face. It was done in Photoshop.

Marion Rowling - Wow thanks Marian. That's so cool.

This one is just all wrong. I pushed pixels around for a couple of nights and now I'm giving up on it. Sorry for posting crap. And I DON'T have man boobs, I don't know how they got there. Haha.

Nicely done sir, basics are good. But basics don't just mean front view portraits, throw in some curve balls, do one from the top, or below, or throw in some interesting lighting.
One thing you might enjoy is to use a different colour pencil. Not sure how your paper takes to colour but get a white and a blue pencil and do drawing, makes it much more fun!......but that could just be me.......little things :p.....

    Keep it up man!

man those pencil sp's you do are really cool, but i pretty much agree with what damlambert said here, experiment a bit with angle, lightning & medium, many different and interesting things may come up! Other then that, keep up the good work!

on post 191 your right eye is just a tad off. but i enjoy the depth in that particular portrait it really feels like your looking at me and in a way is sort of haunting, i can stand away from the computer and still feel that your eyes are locked on me great job.

Had my laptop fixed today mate so was able to look at your work progression - for someone who has never drawn before this past year or so, your improvement is phenomenal mate.

From your first shot at doing sketches, which shows very limited natural skill, to the progression in your graphite and through to the palpable improvement from each digital piece I think you're going to be awesome in due time.

I believe your most important trait is the consistency at which you tackle this "hobby" of yours, the most important trait in any endeavor.

    Look forward to speaking soon.

    Daz
