i like your rpg character looks like the quiet type that knows everybody's secrets, the lighting's really well placed though i think her neck's a little long & the glass study's great i really like that second environment, you can tell what it is even with just the few brush strockes & those helmets rock, you really render metal very well

the custom brushes don't seem to work for the image IMHO. i like the higher saturation though, gives her more life

Not sure what's going on with the speckles (freckles?) If they're supposed to be on the face, they don't look that way... it just looks like the canvas had spots put on it.

Good work, though. I like the classical composition... and those eyes are spooky

miycko:Thanks for the input! She's the quiet type indeed and I'm happy I managed to get that across with her design. I wanted to give the impression of traditional painting because the RPG setting is Victorian London. Is it better now that I've worked on it a bit more? As you can see I've also shortened the neck =)
p sage:Haha, you got me there sage! I did the freckles on a separate layer with a custom brush. But I will integrate them better once I've finished painting the skin =)

Any thoughts on her dress and the changed hair?? Give me your crits~

i'm afraid i wouldn't be much help with the hair (typical male ). For the dress i like the top, i think it would be more suited to have a zipper instead of buttons but it's probably just a matter of preference, also at the angle which her head is turned we wouldn't be able to see her left earring. The cloth on that tin foil study is very well done but i think the foil's a bit too reflective , i would imagine more silver in there. Very nice work on the Sargent study

miycko: I don't think they had zippers around 1860 =P I checked with the earring ... we actually can see it just a teensy tiny bit. Thanks for your feedback! You're right about the foil ... I was too lazy to render it properly O.o

Well I can't harshly criticize your butt; that would be borderline bad ~~

I still think those freckles look sprayed on the canvas.

When thinking about the freckles, you almost have to think about the structure of her face, so that the "plane" of the freckle (if you will) is shown pointing in the same direction as the skin it's on (if that makes sense)

For instance... think about the distribution of the pocks on her nose.... ones on the left of center should point to her right dimensionally... the ones on the bridge should point slightly up in the same way, etc...

    Good luck and hard work!

Cyprinus: Thank you~ I've got a long way to go though ... Still have trouble drawing landscapes from imagiantion >.<

Lawrence study wip ... It's coming along ok I think.

Sometimes I think I'll never going to be as good as I want to be because I simply don't have enough talent ... The thought of this scares me and makes me really sad, because the one thing I want to achieve in life is to become a really awesome artist and be able to make money with my art. =(

I like your sketchbook, some nice studies here. Are those portrait studies from the Sargent Dover book?

Keep it up, maybe do a couple anatomy studies from Bridgman and/or Loomis.

THanks for dropping by! You got a good bunch of work in here. I really like the latest sp you did. It's gorgeous. Some solid anatomy sketches as well.
In some of your work you tend to have a very minimum range of values. For exmaple in the latest portait and especially in the one before. You can check this by setting the saturation of the image at 0 so you can check the greyscale image. It's good to check whether your images is reading or not.
Also mind the texture your using. In the last anatomy study the skin has a pretty rigid texture. While skin is a lot more soft.
ANyway keep up the good work!

Eddieee: Thanks! Dover book? I think it was, but I don't know for sure, I got it from the library and it's been a while ... I do anatomy studies every day but I'm too lazy to scan them ...

jordyskateboardy: Thanks man! You're probably right about the texture. I would've blended the skin more, as you can see the study is unfinished. I don't like the plastic super blended look digital art sometimes has - so maybe I tend to overuse textured brushes ^^; I agree with you on the values. I'll keep it in mind for my next paintings!

Among other things, an update on the Lawrence master study. FYI that orange thing is a carrot ... when I showed it to a friend she thought it was a dildo O.o''

you're working hard, and it really shows in how
much the quality of your work's improved since

a la bapsi: Haha thanks ... I'm not convinced about the potential but I'm stubborn so I'll keep on working no matter how much I hate my art =)

Finished the master study ... Or rather got tired of working on it. I have huge problems with finishing stuff and so I thought I'd rather focus on finishing original stuff than studies and let it be. So here's a friend's character I drew. Now that the pic is finished I kinda really hate it =/ Crappy hand and toy gun LOL. Ugh. At least now I know what I need to practice next^^

WOah that carrot is like super awesome. NEver knew carrots could be awesome ehe.
That portait study is awesome. You're not over exaggerating your texture brushes and keeping more of a balance. That works great! Be sure to add some hue shifts in the coat and play with temperature a bit more.
Last one looks cool too. Though the eyes aren't facing the same direction. Only thing that's really bugging me. And I think you're overdoing the texture on the coat a bit. Coats dont have such an obvious texture. Anyway awesome stuff keep it up.
