As the title says, I love his Selinas so for a school project I chose Catwoman.
(To merge an ancient and modern icon into one piece)
You have catwoman in the front and Bastet in the back.

Working on it and I really have no idea what to do in terms of lighting as I'm still pretty new to coloring.
C&C much appreciated.

Also, first piece done on my new intuos4! What a frikkin update from my graphire.

first thing I noticed is her hand is too big. A hands general size can be measured by the face. Generally the length from the wrist to the end of the middle finger is the same length as from the chin to the hairline.

As with the colouring try some saturated parts around the highlights on the skin, it's the subsurface scattering. You can see for yourself when you put your hand right up to a lamp. it'll glow red because the light is bouncing around inside underneath the skin.

And most of all remember you're working digitally so don't be afreaid to experiment. make a new layer throw some colours around and see what works.

Another idea regarding the subject is it might look cool if the cat in the backgground was instead on her shoulders brushed up around her neck admiring the diamond also.

I really see the potential in this pic! The lighting, alone, will make this piece dramatic. But, I think there would be a shadow of her arm being cast on her boobs, if the jewelery case is illuminated as it is.

I have little experience with lighting myself and shy away from it. But I'm planning to change this. I've been reading about lighting recently and came across this tutorial. Hope it helps.

move the cat so it at least doesn't touch her on the edge like that. cat really feels like an afterthought and doesn't seem to have a great place to go.

One thing you could do with the lighting is give it that noir style effect. The light from the moon would cast that kind of shadow on Miss Kyle as it shine through that window.

ok so i tried a few things out. after I get the layout down im gonna try coloring it in a different way.

updates: - smaller hand though I need to fix her wrist
- position of other arm
- cat
- cropping

i possibly might change the background so that there's some wall, and not just window.

u said you were new to color? color has value get a strong value scheme and choose your color scheme based on the mood you are trying to achieve. you could even use complimentary hues between the diamond and the ladies face to add some drama to this shiat.

yeah still relatively new.
hopefully college is gonna help in terms of color theory and the like but i'll just continue to practice on my own til then

x'D thanks. im gonna start the colors all over again now. the reflecting light off the diamond is a cool idea but i dont know if im up to it haha

I was getting frustrated so i switched to B&W to get down the shades first.

You made almost the exact change to the cat that I was going to suggest. That's pretty cool.

I like your version of Catwoman. The image is moody and has good balance/composition. Maybe put a subtle Bat-symbol up in the sky cast by Gordon's light?

It just shows more focus to the diamond. But, I think you can go either way with the way the cat is doing. I was going to say that the cat doesn't have to be there, but I changed my mind. If the cat was removed, you would have to replace that spot with something. Its there and compliments the composition very nicely.

Anywho, great work so far. I hope to see more of this.
