    Namae's sketchbook

Hello! I'm 16 years old person. I'm not in any kind of art school- almost self taught.
I've been visiting this site for longer time, yet just a few days ago I decided to register here.
I'd like to show you a few of my recent sketches, and hoping to get some nice critique

I really love your brush strokes, especially the dress pic. I can't explain it, they are just really sweet. I have no critiques

Welcome to CA. Hope to see more in this thread!

hey namae! thanks for dropping by my sketchbook :3 glad you decided to join-- and starting at a very early age too (not that age really matters) but it's good to know you're taking your interests very serious ~

if you have a scanner or some sort of way of photographing traditional work-- maybe delve into traditional studies as well? anatomy from books and photos should be good resources (look into the typical anatomy giants of hogarth/bridgman/loomis) though there are others as well! can't wait to see what you fill this thread with ;3

@goldilockz Thanks so much! Nice to read something so nice just at the beginning
@teapo Thank you for some advices. Well, I don't think I start so early, I just didn't choose an art school but the way of self-teaching ^^

And some sketches with failed shading... Pencil seems to be still my enemy.

In all honesty art school, at least from my experience, is self teaching that you pay for (well, in most cases. There were some isolated moments of awesomeness). Just work hard, pay attention to what you read about the business, and do all you can to promote and develop your skills.

Keep working. You've obviously got some foundation in drawing and your painting didn't look to shabby either. When you cross hatch be concerned with your your hatching lines relate to the form you're trying to convey. Changing their direction so they run with a certain form, or rounding them to mold out a cone etc. can do wonders for you. Stop being squiggly! Give your lines intentions.

You've got some minor structure things here and there, but probably all things you'll begin to pick up as you work more and more.

Keep observing, I'll try and be back. Good job here.

I actually think your pencil sketches are your strongest point. However you got a strong start man, and your colors choices and strokes are quite nice.

    Keep rocking man.

Thank you guys, and sorry for late reply. And especially Quigleyer, THANK YOU for your advices, I'll take them under condition.
I've had some mess in my life, which made me unable to even to keep up pencil in hand.
    But, here's most recent sketch:

Interesting colour use friend, i also am trying to go a little more abstract with my colouring too, not as abstract as your last 2 posts, but you get the idea =p

i would have to agree with the above comments, take your time with your work, i generally trying 2-3 hours min on a greylad-> ps colouring, but really the sky is the limit, even 8 hours..the work is just gonig to look even more impressive and possibly youll learn new methods in such a lengthy time! keep it up

Hello~ After longer than half year break I come back. From what I see in my sketches, I think didn't make any progress- rather made an opposite to it XD
Anyway, my biggest problem at the moment is drawing from references.

The one on the left is drawn straight from photo, the one on the right- from fresh memory T.T

    Hi!
Here's something I try to work on meanwhile. School is really pain since from half of November there wasn't any week without at least 2 exams T.T
Anyway, this piece is supposed to be a gift for my mum and I want to finish it so badly before Christmas... May be hard, I believe I'll succeed
But mumbling on the side...Does anybody have an idea on what could be improved here? XD

I'd consider this work as done, but I'm widely open for any suggestions. What bothers me the most is this unintended blurry look, yet I have no idea atm how to come out of this. Damn it!

Wow, you're the same age as me! You've got some really cool stuff here. I really admire your use of colour and brush strokes. I really love your environments, especially that night scene. Your most recent piece gives a traditional feel to me. I like the lighting, it gives a whimsical glow and I think your unintentional blurriness actually adds to it. I really like it. But, I suppose if you want to get rid of that blurriness use a harder edge brush (but it kinda seems like you did :s), or perhaps use one of the lasso tools to select area of the trees and paint the edges so you'll get that strong definition between the tree and the background. I think that is what could be causing that blurriness you speak of. Just my two cents.

Hi, from the last post you said that the blurriness is not intended but you want to come out of it? well I have also experienced the same thing when I focus on putting a lot of brush strokes and not focusing on the contrast between the lightest and the darkest tone of an image keeps my work become blurry or out of focus ... the answer which I come up with is eliminating a lot of brush strokes, finalizing the emphasis of the comp and make a good contrast, IDK if it'll work for you .... btw, don;t stop, I'll be checking your SB cheers!

    Hello~
Here's some still life practice. The daylight started to get only worse because of late hour, and I still didn't have finished bottle, so I painted it as soon as possible with my current abilities, yet the glass still looks dull and...?

    You have a great sketchbook.

I think your fresh memory drawing is well done. Interesting that it's almost better in any case clearer than what you made by copy. I think if you can make comparisons during drawing from reference like how would you draw a face from mind and how it looks on the reference you can make your studies clearer.

Hi there! Your understanding of form and color surprises me, I love the way you compose your images with a beautiful array of colors and good sense of depth. Nice to see you started updating again :3 I hope to see this sketchbook grow. Keep up the good work!
