    18th century costume

Hi, I am illustrating a short story of Edgar A. Poe : "M.S. found in a bottle"

I am wondering where to find reference about costumes and boat of the 18th century.
I found a lot of information about boats, but almost nothing about the regular costume, most of the materail i found was about nobles and rich men etc....

Actually i am planning to watch "Pirates of the caribbean", that might help,
maybe you have got some more information and material....

    thank you

Yes. Watching movie is the easiest way.

I got only one website with historical costumes but for every century there's always bunch of images. Hope it helps.

    Hi ther matey,

I have read your post and went "a Hunting" this lot below will sort you right out

    http://www.history.org/history/clothing/

    http://www.costumes.org/history/100pages/18thlinks.htm

    http://www.smilingfoxforgellc.com/

    http://americanrevolution.org/clothing.html

    http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/eudr/hd_eudr.htm

Some are links pages but they will point you at so much stuff you wont know where to start. To make clothes for poorer people look at the lines and style of the upper class clothing and then use cheaper material and remove all the frippery, posh bits.
As for the film references you could watch Mel Gigsons Patriot movie too.

    I hope this helps

    Bye for now Lightship69
