Ghosd Sketchbook Day 1, Help Appreciated!!!

Heya, I am basicaly starting this thread as I need a real boost and a hella lot more motivation to become an accomplished artist.
I am going to Univerisity to study Character Creation and Techincal Effects. This is more scuplture and and props but I want to be able to draw and prepare every piece through painting, both digital and normal and drawing!!

Crits are greatly appreciated especialy if it is bad stuff, all helps!!

So here it is

Some drawings I started yesterday off with, going to add some more later from my first life drawing class that i went to today!! , see how it goes

Hey, Welcome to the Forums, I'm new as well.
This is a good start, one thing I would recommend is some figure studies. Maybe check out some of Loomis' books. He's a genius.

cheers, yeah I have been looking through the online book mate really helpful, im an absolute novice but so keen to get good, just posting up some of my life drawings from today, found a cheap class for a fiver for like 4 hours

here are some 2 min sketches and a bit from the book how to draw the marvel way!
(my scanner sucks!!)

its definately a good start..

do you ever get a chance to do any life drawing? if not i highly recommend doing so. maybe even just sit on a park bench somewhere.

the thing about drawing is that it IS a science (please no crucifixion) but it is not an exact science. it requires confidence..and lots of it..

ooooooh....and theres a book...the Atlas of Human Anatomy...dont know who made it but it is a very Very good reference

cool cheers guys, thing is I work full time, getting to life drawing classes is a rare chance for me. I cant stop drawing now!! I have ruined a new 4b pencil already today so i think ill stop with these

4 hour drawing class for that little, nice find. Wish I could find something like that around here : P
Not being super skilled myself, all I can say is PRACTICE. I draw for at least a hour a day, carry a sketchbook around with you.
Drawing from life is great practice.

Heh, I work in a comic shop full time, days off being tuesday and sunday, so im around all this kl art work all day, but its all a bit like wooaaahh am I ever gunna get this good! If I carried sketchbook I don't know when i'd get the chance to draw anyway, as I drive to and from work

Hey there. Great start to your sketchbook, be sure to check out Loomis (as previously suggested

) and Bridgman to get your anatomy studies down.

For sketching, don't be afraid to use a broad range of pencils, I typically always use a 4B, because you can push the darks pretty well with that. And don't be afraid to push them! It will really help your images pop

Also, try not to outline everything to harshly, vary your strokes

(I have to learn this myself as well, as I tend to do the exact same thing lol) Anyhow, I hope this helps a little, and keep your work coming, I will check back in every now and again ^^

Thanks Karein, I have decided to start right from the beggining I have bought a Barrington Barber Fundamentals Book, and have just ordered some paperback bridgman ones, so heres what i have so far from Barbers first couple of pages.

Nice drawings from life man. The posemanics are impressive too. Improvement can really be seen since your first post. Keep up the work, and I look forward to seeing more of your work. Remember Perseverance is key.

Hey Ghosd, your doing a great job so far! Your sense of flow, rhythm, and discipline to follow the foundations of art is going to take you very far.

I absolutely enjoyed your gesture drawings because they seemed to have life. I can see your very confident in your skills! The one thing I would recommend is being lighter with your hatching. Try hatch with more finesse. Each hatching line seems a bit forced and rushed through. I suggest going slowing when your adding those shadows to represent passion and your enthusiasm for your art.

Focus on structure don't you even render just focus on structure that will make you better, it cost me a lot but I did that.

your stuff is looking good man, keep going. im not a professional or anything but i noticed on the left side of her lower jaw(her right), you shaded it to dark and that is the side it looks like the lighting is coming from so it makes her jaw look almost tubular, it looks really to round. i think yeah its best to focus on structure first then add shade once youve mastered structure, but hey, sometimes its just fun to work on the same piece for a little longer right =D
i think we all should be focusing on something but you gotta remember the fun part of art too! good luck
