Great. You worked so much on this and i am sure you already unlocked new understandings.Even if it is in the need of texture work and such(even if it can be used already on the way you rendered it) i think its great.
Now keep your achievements and go for the next and try to do it faster (and from the first basic construction try to[avoid easily seen proportion errors].And if you make it faster you will not be bored enough to step in the next level playing with textures, different shadings, etc etc

    Keep going

Hey thanks Krato, I kinda like the tal that big, gives it imo a bit more "dinosaurish" impression.

Janos - Thankies dude! Yes I fully agree with you on it being a bit too clean. You got an really good idea there about going completely experimentaly nuts with brushes, textures and colours on her when I have finished her. Ye I will post it ASAP!

kingkostas - Hehe, I'm really gratefull for your comment, and ye I feel I have kinda "leveled up" a bit thanks to this one. Very good advice, although I think I'll first go bananas on her as Janos adviced me to, and after that I will do as you said. I am feeling very tempted using your thumbnail tutorial on my next one. Thanks man!

Quick something for today. Skeleton fighting, from memory.

I am doing studies on basic stuff again, I don't understand foreshortening almost anything at all, so I realllllly have to work on it. Some studies from today after trying to understand Hogarth by NOT COPYING his drawings but first reading what he say thouroughly and then try it on my own. Did this insectoid humanoid as a test on foreshortening. Doing more studies tomorrow.

ZhouPeng - Hey thanks a lot for your kind words! I'm glad my little stuff can be inspiring to someone.

I've been thinging a bit now, maybe I should like set up a schedule over what to study over the week. Like monday I study the head all day, tuesday the torso, wednesday the arms, thursday the hands (they're important and should have a day for themselves), friday the legs, and on saturday I can do whatever I like (it's like saturday candy-day ) and on sunday I'll do poses which will be as complex and challenging as possible. What you think about this, is it a good schedule or should I take away or add something else? Would be really happy to get some thoughts on this.

Here's crap I have done since the last time I updated. I know... not much at all... I will be going to Tenerif with my class for 8 days or so, I will try and draw some there, maybe landscapes.

First 3 are statue and architecture studies from life. Then one from memory, the 5th till the 8th are Hogarth studies (damn I copied), then one Warhammer thing, and at last some I copied from an painting but drawed in other angles (this painting: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...OfAcre1291.jpg)

Thats the thing i like most about you mate.Your studies are definitely full of thought and not simply copying and such. And thats why you improve very fast.Keep up everything you do.
The schedule is great as long as you keep going

Some one has been busy. I like the Khorne guys. I think you treat the images you do generelly too similar in different areas. Try different saturation, value, sharpness, edges to guide the eye more!

Hey guys, back from Tenerif and the Canarie Islands, it was amazing. Hardly did any drawings there, I will post the few I made later.

kingkostas - Hey thanks man! I really appriciate your words and the support!

Janos - Thank you, those are some very good advices. I feel I get really snow-inned on some parts as you say. :/

Shit I did today from imagination, later realised how bad it was when my friend pointed out that the pose was impossible and that the flow was broken in the pelvis, and all the other misstakes as you can see. He suggested I would study the muscles that goes from the pelvis to the ribcage and study them in movement aswell - so that I will do today.

im still not that good artist but.. heres my opinions:

I like this last one, but consider taking more time and focus on your work, think what you are doing. "take a step further" as you have done here before ^^ you have done some progress.

    keep it up ^^

J-P Nihtinen - Kiitos! Yes I fully agree, I have like stopped thinking when I am drawing. Taking it a step further is really hard, I am not sure how I'll be able to do that right now, seems almost like I am taking a step back at the moment.

Soooo much I missunderstood about the ribcage and spine. I have to do this before starting on the abdominal muscles and the schedule. The spine is way thicker then I thought, especially at the base. And my friend pointed out to me that I have completely fucked up on the ribcage when using the cranium-cube method.

Love the lycan pic man. If you take down the sharpness of the moon and the clouds, it'll really pop out the character. That being said I reall dig your SB. it shows ups and downs but that is what an artists SB is all about. We all need to go through times of inspiration and faliure. Faliure is imperrative as we learn by our mistakes and strive to do better and thus improve. This is the journey of an artist so don't get yourself down. It is awesome to see you are back on the wagon..
Keep drawing man your work ROCKS! Kudos,

oj! On the way to greatness. I have rarely seen such dedication to anatomy studies. And you are doing it with a systematic approach that sure will cut corners in the long run. You are doing great. It's such a ride to go from page one to eight. Keep it up.

tariqart - Wow thanks man, really kind words. Yeah I guess it's just a part of the journey, without downs I guess one wouldn't appriciate the ups as much.

i dont know if you understand it or no but with that things or to say it better with the way you choosed to approach progress you develop a very strong weapon that i already see in your works.Dont say more things on that other than just keep up using your head and your research.

Your skeletons remind me so much of the sketches using a simplified human form by some Italian renaissance artist my art teacher showed me. It's gonna bug me all day trying to figure out which one XD but your sketch book is amazing so that should make up for the irritation caused by this little brain teaser Oh, I was really fascinated by what you did with two point perspective to help you blocking in the ribcage in that study. It really captures the idea of 'constructing' the human form when you think about perspective having been rediscovered in order to do accurate architectural drawings. There's nothing for it, I'll just have to make your sketchbook into a bookmark now XD.
I have nothing interesting to say but here's my sketchbook, perhaps you'll think I've drawn something interesting XD http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=167964

    Zaxzr's birthday

kingkostas - Yes you're right, on the spot. I had the wrong mood when I made these and I think I got frustrated and forgott to have fun as one should do. Thanks a lot man, I appriciate it.

Grandmaaaaaa - Hehe thanks dude. Glad for having your support.

strange1900 - Wow that is a big compliment, thank you! If I'm going to be honest I learned this method when I studied the art teacher Mentler here on conceptart.org, he kinda approaches anatomy studies in a way the old masters of the reniscanse did, and he have studied them a lot. I really recommend for everyone to check out his thread "Book of Bones":
    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=26748

I have been doing head studies all day yesterday (mainly female because I discovered I am worse at doing female faces then male faces which is a bit of a handicap), will post them later tonight if I'm not too lazy to scan them , so in the meanwhile I'll post 2 things I did today:

Zaxzr is now 264 and4 demimoonds old, look how happy Zaxzr got by the suprise party his friends at Dryxf 10 put up for him. Speedpainting (kinda) took 2 hours I think.

2nd one is something I thought up when eating breakfast (maybe it was that tune that caused it...), a mermaid accidentaly being caught by a group of fishermen. Sketchy stage and I will continue it, I mainly went for facial gestures in this and tried to only work from mind. Any comments or critique is more then welcomed.

interesting composition. This would probably need a strong enviro, cause horizontal canvas gives more depth and there is a need to fill the depth here
The mermaid seems bigger than the other persons and its like i see a mermaid with some dwarves pulling her out or something. If thats what you want then ok, if not, just select and make the mermaid smaller or something.
Lol i saw my previous post and i must say that sometimes i laugh with how bad i write in english now and then.Maybe i was drunk again.

Lord M thanks for dropping by my sketchbook, and thanks for the great advice! wow, there is a LOT of great work here. you are definately doing it right. your paintings are looking really good. you seem to have a pretty decent grasp of color. keep up with the anatomy studies, they are are definately paying off for you. i can really notice your lines becoming much more natural and fluid in the later posts. also, your shading on some of the later pencil sketches is REALLY beginning to take shape. it has a graphic quality that i like. i would be interested to see some of that stuff finished up and inked. i think your bird creatures are pretty cool. keep working them cause they are some of your strongest OC. i wish i could give some good advice but i dont think that i am very qualified! lol. so ill just say keep cracking away at the anatomy and keep up the hard work. also i think that pencil is one of your stronger mediums, so keep them coming!

Keep laying the hammer down on those anatomy studies!
Minor crit: Some of the studies look wonkily weighted, like the pecs and biceps are rather large in comparison to the abs, which look like they taper inward somewhat. Definitely work on the face too, I can't wait to see what you'll be pumping out in a month or two! I've seen a bit of improvement from the beginning to the end of this page alone!

kingkostas - Hey thanks a lot on the feedback! Ye I agree now when you say it, she's like twice as tall as them. I dunno, I kinda like that idea now when I think about it, a really tall mermaid. But how would I achieve that illusion, if I want the men to look normal sized? Maybe the props I will place in the scene can help if I do them the right size.

PermaN00b - Hehe, thanks YOU for popping in here aswell and for the kind words. Ye I like the birdcreatures a lot, I will do many more of them. Everyone is qualified giving advice to one degree or another, and you gave good advice I think. Thanks!

RedSquirrel - Hey thanks a lot!

Helltroll - Thanks a lot for the critique and kindness, dude! I know I am bad with weighting, and how mass should be placed aswell. I am not really sure how I should study that, from photos?

These are some drawings I made when I ws on my trip to Tenerif, Canarie Islands west of Africa. First are some Vanderpooel eye-studies. Then stuff from memory and a still-life drawing of a crab using my colouring pencil (col-erase).
Also, Krato gave me some really good critique on the heads I draw - I make bubbleheads. And when he pointed it out, I could see it everywhere, so now I gotta really FOCUS on what I am doing and not just dick around like a tard. And I should draw more from photos, which I hardly ever do.

Ok some more stuff from the this week. Went to lifedrawing again, did head-studies and leg-studies, also some statue studies focusing on the head. The last one is something I did to test what I have learned, drawn from memory.

Right now I prioriate head-studies a bit, because my heads are looking quite terrible. I know how to make them in profile but not in 3D space. I also have been slacking with the digital art, gonna continue on the mermaid pic I think, then start on something new.

hello mate.keep up the studies you do.
About the previous piece, i think the dwarven feature can be found in their legs.Maybe making them longer or something.Dunno try and see, or go on with another thing. The multiple person composition already gave you experience at some point, its up to you now

(EDIT: oo some very nice elements in the last one.Its obvious that your rendering is advanced after doing you lizard character)
