Oooh, congrats on page two I see your pushing your values more which is great. As papervampire suggested, maybe get a few gestures done, or even some contours? Break up your studies, so you don't get bored of them I'll keep checking back, keep up the good work

Papervampire - Thanks for stopping by Gesture studies coming up!

Karein - Hello again thanks for visiting over and over. As you and papervampire mentioned I did some 90 sec gesture studies...

....so here we are. Some very very very bad posemaniacs + a sketch of something from imagination I keep coming back to and adding bits. The posemaniacs will get better, i hope

    Thanks guys.

The bone image and the last image (techno hair yay! ^^) are very good and its good to do gesture studies (I have to start it too)
My advice is to focus yourself on one topic each day!

Sarkys - Thank you I was quite happy with the bone studies and the girl with the "techno hair" just kind of happened, like a sudden memory or something, so I sketched it out. In fact, I liked how it was starting to look. So I carried on with it a bit today.

I want to focus mainly on anatomy/gestures so that I can start pulling off some decent character designs.

Unfortunatly I have no studies from today as I have been at work for the most of it, so I will post my wip of the techno chick I want to work on this and paint it up I think. So any crit and comments about it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    hello Daemien

i see a lot of dedication. That's very good.
    Your studies looks good.
one tip: don't stress on human body as very important thing. think of it like a muppet. Work your gesture , anatomy, proportions , masses. It will come naturally and you will draw them very good.don't worry you got talent !

and draw as many real persons as you can.thousands and thousands , even tiny gesture done in 15 seconds.

    keep posting

zou - Thank you so much for your kind words. I pretty much want to improve in anything I can. But I feel I should keep pounding at anatomy and figure studies.

I finished this drawing today. I just had to. I'm going to get back on the studies now I swear Thanks

ok, some more of my crappy pose maniacs before bed. I feel like doing a longer study of something now tho. So maybe I will, sucky drawings like these make me want to spend more time to get something right.

I saw your sketchbook before and I was convinced I commented already. I remember that survival pod very vividly and having liked it very much. You probably draw better at night because your brain works better at that time? What is it that you are not liking about your sketches exactly?

Ste - Thank you and I intend to keep it up. Even if it's just a little doodle a day.

Leonor - Thanks The survival pod was a design project for the end of my first year. I added text to that image and modelled it in 3d too (which i never posted) Doesn't look anything special though. I dont like how bitty my sketches look with my shading, I'd like them to look smoother. Thus I have taken to using a bit of cotton wool to blend them a little. Also that they take me ages. I have carried on with the portrait of the girl with the techno hair today, darkened my darks and used eraser to bring out some highlights, all in all It has taken me 4 days to do that so I really need to develop speed.

Konstruktion did advise me "endurance before speed" which has kinda stuck with me. So.........ummmm.......speed exercises........

....more pose maniacs...I know you all probably get sick of seeing these. But it's all I can fit in my schedule atm. 6 Days left till the end of my first year, then I can start piling in some longer studies. Thanks for your words guys, Keep kicking me, I need this.

I just thought I should include my 3d models of that Survival Pod thing I did for college.

And my final drawing of the techno haired girl......I am doing no more on this pencil wise. Starting to paint her up.

Shading won't look good unless you are precise and patient with your hatching.

That pod should be made interactive somewhere so I could play it. Maybe for Myst Online when it's back on?

What do you feel when people find that your ideas are similar to something else they have seen, does it bother you? Do you rather know even if it bothers you?

Leonor - Yes I need to practice my shading. Thats why I want to do longer studies. Just need the time. But like I mentioned, once college is over next wednesday I have all summer to hit down.

To answer your questions, I find it quite alright that somebody see's a resemblance as I take it as Im heading in the right direction. Also yes, Id rather know what people think for good or bad as that will help me improve. It will give me an idea of what I need to change and/or what I need to keep. Thanks for visiting again

More work on the girl with techno hair when I got home from work. She seems to be an ongoing process Thanks...

I tend to hate when I discover that once again my feeble attempt at creating something was not original, that's why I asked if you minded. I wanted to be sensible about the fact that your techno hair reminds me of the hair of this print I have in my wall.

I really like yours, though, and it was your avatar that brought me back to your sketchbook. I'm loving to see her progress.

Arrrggghhh I dont believe this. The hair is almost the very same, cept their drawing skill is much better. Thanks for pointing that out Leonor. I know now to scrap this idea.

Back to the drawing board...as is said.

EDIT: Just thought I'd post the image from where my initial inspiration came from.

Argh, I feel like a destroyer of innocence or something now. Your techno hair was going a better route because it seemed to have wires inside. As much as I like that drawing I linked, it looks more like this than techno hair. Cyber falls are fairly common nowadays, but they always look like wigs, not like implants growing out of the skull.

I didn't go far very far with my "must be original" stubbornness, so it might not be the better route.

Don't become discouraged Daemien, even if the idea is similar to someone elses, it will still help you out to practice. Never give up on an idea, always work on it, refine it to make it more your own Everything can be developed if there is a will

Don’t worry too much about your last design, we’re all trying to build up a visual library of images and concepts we can use and it’s quite common that your earlier design’s are not going to be quite as original. It will come with time as your skill develops along with your style.

Keep it up, you can see the improvement in your pose maniac sketches already, the last update shows a lot more confident in your line work.

Leonor Thanks. I am familiar with cyber falls, as my girlfriend wears them when she goes out Yes mine does have wires/optics inside.

Karein Thanks for your reply. I will keep working her up as I want it finished. Like you said. It's all good practice.

Ste Thanks for stopping by again I havn't done any posemaniacs for a few days. This image has been taking my time along with college work (which I finish for the summer in 3 days)

Also I'd like to thank you three for your support over this matter. It was a little shock to discover it. Although I am happy Leonor pointed it out. Anyway, onwards. Got back from a day out yesterday and I finished up by doing some more work on it. A change of colour scheme and added bits I need to work her face up now (the hard part )...

Nice, I really like the green in between of her hair. I can't give you much crit in digital, but it looks like it is coming along nicely

Her forehead though, looks to me as though it is a little more bulbous than your last post? It looks a little off, as the forehead should be a little flatter than that, or she might look like she has an egg on her head. Keep it up

Karein Thanks. Im starting to lose my way with her. I will come back to her at a later date.

Watching Feng Zhu's shot design workshop, I decided to follow along to try and kick me back into some studies.

    So...perspective....
