    Updated on 4-01-2012 Page 6

Thanks for giving me some of your time to view my art.

Here's a Corel Painter self portrait. I usually shy away from impasto but I found some usage for it here.

Thank you Samuel and Dahami. Here's an elf sketch turned some kind of alien thing. I wish that Painter had a "create new window" like Photoshop (which I learned for Bobby Chiu. The image stayed roughly 5-8 inches on screen for most of the "meat" of the image.

Here's another update on an image that, like usual, I'm frustrating myself over. How many times must I try to do a detailed grayscale image, attempt to colorize it, and FAIL miserably. I always end up doing a whole new painting...none of the grayscale image manages to stay at all. My wife said that he's starting to look like Larry David...So I'll most likely give him glasses like his and act like that was the intention all along.

I had this image in the critique thread and I received some great input. On top is the original grayscale. Corel Painter X.

Thanks to Collywobbles reply in another thread! I downloaded Alchemy and I love this thing. I made up a symmetry armor action in Photoshop but Alchemy has a mirror feature built right in. Great for laying down some quick concept stuff. It would be amazing if you could open with it and change the resolution of the images.

Thank you Chupacabra. Here is that Warcraft chararcter. I think I did this in 2006. It was for a Blizzard art contest...Which like a loser I waited a week before it was due. Photshop and Painter on this.

Noob question. Do you have to finish a grayscale version of the image before you start laying down any colors? Or is it just for practice?
Hope you don't mind me asking.

Not a noob question at all tbh. I'll do grayscales if I'm "inventing" the form and testing where values look right. But if you have reference or a complete understanding of the form I would go straight to color in a monochrome to glazing type approach (that works best for me). A lot of times I see people try to "keep" the foundations of the grayscale image as much as possible and the result looks somewhat "muted" or grayish. It seems easier for me to work TO my greys digitally than to work FROM them. I'll make a new layer on top of the greyscale image and set to multiply. Choose a nice base color and fill the layer with that color. Flatten the image or create a new layer, then paint from there.

That last WoW painting is looking a little flat compared to the your other stuff, values are kinda samey and muted.

Loving the profile painting at the top, great values going on.

Here's some new stuff. I've been gravitating a lot towards Photoshop these past few weeks. Painter can be a pain when fine tuning a painting. The caricature was mostly done in Painter but the speedpainted scenes were done all in Photoshop with no real reference. Need more practice with environments

Sweet, paint and lines together are nice. Those environments are looking good as well man. I don't know how far Alchemy will go but I think we haven't even started to figure it out yet. Good stuff Jason.

I used to be addicted to World of Warcraft. Met some good people during my 4 year addiction. This is for one of those good guys...banner for a video he plans on making. The character was done in Painter and Photoshop. The text was done in Illustrator then Photoshop.
