    S51's Brainfarts - 12-23

Greetings all, I'm a long-time lurker/first-time poster (I've seen many people around here introducing themselves with that, figured it'd be appropriate). I'll go out and get myself a decent scanner in the next few days, at which time I'll post more of my existing for. For the moment, chew on this miniscule tidbit.

    More to come.

Nice studies. I like the top piece but the bottom piece looks like it lacks structure. Try and study the different planes of the human head and face... it should help bring your drawings to life. Also you might want to try a blending stick for some of your shadow work. I love those things. Anyways keep posting!

Somewhere between a cat and a man...

Yeah, the face is pretty unstructured. Oh well, something to work on.

Yeah, I've really got to start varying my poses more. It's so easy to get stuck in one perspective. I'll do some profile and 3/4 drawings next, just to flesh things out.

The forearm is much too long in comparison to the upper arm, the profile dude's face is a little exaggerated. Oh well.

I'm starting to get lazy with my stuff. I couldn't sleep last night, so I rode the train around for a while. Saw this guy sitting there reading and figured he'd be perfect material.

I'll get a more proper update tonight or tomorrow morning.

Well, probably the best advice I could give you is to study
    a) the skull (general: the skeleton)
    b) the muscles - of the face
    c) Photographs of people, or 'real life' people (that is: figure drawing classes)

Because you get the main idea of the face and stuff, but I think there's not enough understructure. No biggy, you'll learn quickly.

    Keep at it!

I'm actually starting a life drawing class at the Art Students' League in January, I'm sure that'll help. I'll look for some good diagrams of the skull and facial muscles, thanks for the tip.
