so this is for a competition called the Mosman Youth Art competition I think it's called. it's down Sydney way, the first prize is $10k so it's pretty intense! its like 12-15 year olds so I might have a decent chance C: wish me luck!
oh and theres a possibilty (really low) that i could get a scholarship to Julian Ashton's Art School! like, the best art school in australia, Rodrigo! went there and Monsi goes there currently.. wooo i'm dying to go!! :F

soo yeah, wish me luck with that! i need all the luck i can get!

GOod luck mannn! Nah I don't think the undies will give off the correct characterization for your character. Unless he's a gay/partying. You could have giant penises/dildos growing out of his head too instead of antlers!

GOod luck with the compitition, I want you to get it T__________T

Hey! Nice SB. Love that you are doing oil paintings. Much respect right there.
I would advise refining the sketch since there is a lot up for grabs with the competition. What is the brief? Do you just need to do anything? If yes, then try to get a better composition down.
The neck coming out of his peck seems off. It doesn't seem possible, but if you render it right it could work out. But you will need to be very careful to make it look like the second head belongs there. I think you will do it though!
As I said, nice stuff. Keep it up. You are killing!

Good work! I've just started a similar self portrait and I'm having some issues with the projected shadows of one limb over the other limbs. They SHOULD exist, but they don't in the photo-collage. Keep it in mind! Anyway, that's a good start. Be careful about the upper/lower body proportion though.
    Keep at it!

life drawing! good show. is it a class or some such?
if so it might not be possible. but I think it'd be good for you to -after doing some quick sketchies- do a piece of +1 hour. very educational.
sigh.. wish I could do some of those myself..
hey. I could try drawing husband /w son! hmm when they' both sleeping. ^^

Good life drawings, keep doing that and build your visual vocabulary up. Need more women, bring the balance between the two genders. Couldn't help but to notice the little monkey and tiger figures in the botton right setion of the photo of your bookshelf
Good that you've started oil painting at this age, I only recently picked it up. Keep going!

wow, i guess i missed a bunch of updates, but that's me right now... not watching almost anything...

the leg studies look good, really good, but still think that you need to study the masses first, and the muscles, so you can draw better and better, but heck you have a bunch of time (or maybe not...) i don't do that many studies, but i think bridgman and loomis are the best out there IMO, for us ppl that don't know how to draw anatomy good.
The guy you drew... needs bigger and wider legs, and a larger face =)

man, i wish i had all of those books...

i dunno what to say, just don't forget to use your mind when studying, analize the figure and muscles, and everything, don't just copy them

you're doing amazing! keep it up!
but i gtg to sleep now ._., and yeah, make great use of those books please

Hey Ryan, considering you're only 14, you're doing pretty well. I think it's safe to say that by the time you turn 18 your skillz will be quite good. Getting in "early" like this - into the anatomy, the technical side of things, etc - is going to put you ahead, skill-wise, than a lot of... well, anyone else about your age trying to achieve the same thing.

Everyone's just about said everything in terms of crits (like the ever-obligatory "work on your anatomy!" [no shit!]), so I won't add anything except >> just keep going

cool oil paints man, you really did good on his face but i think his neck is probably a too long underneath that coat. the photostudy of the house looks great and Dude your still life study looks awesome, there's a couple perspetive issues here & there but those should be solved with time & practice. keep it up dude

Hey again. For the life drawings, try taking notes of the steps you are taking. This will make sure you don't keep making the same mistakes.
A method that seems to work better for me, is to measure out the very large proportions ( top of head, bottom of pelvis, bottom of feet), then do very large and flowing gestures, then to do overall shapes and refine.
Try doing similar steps, or try different drawing methods. You may just be drawing a line and doing it by eye with no real method. We all waste our time when we do this (imo) (don't worry, the amount of time I have wasting doing this sort of thing is unreal)
Just my opinion though, most likely someone will disagree.
But yeah, keep up the motivation!

remember when drawing arms from imagination their is an elbow nad the woman you covered the eyes up the waist, body area is longer.. just keep doing studies and draw lots of arms and hands, well anything really, it all comes together more and more
