    [dTb] [UPDATE 07.23.09]

    Hi everyone,
I've been coming to these forums for quite a while now, and after getting back from Dallas I feel much more motivated (in more ways than one) to contribute and participate more in the forums. This website has been hugely inspirational for me over the years, so many thanks to all of you.

These are just some samplings of images to get started, I encourage you all to visit my blog for some more recent sketches and paintings I've been working on. As of tomorrow (hopefully) I'll have a shiny new tablet, so I'd love to start posting some digital paintings and getting feedback from you all. So far I've been focused on learning traditional mediums, but on the long drive home from Dallas (and thanks to some kind encouragement from fellow artists) I was convinced that a bit of digital dabbling would harm no one. So with that said I now offer myself to the symbiosis of Concept Art.

Oh, and apologies for the awful photogaphy---maybe I should invest in a scanner...

    Welcome!

This is truly a magnificent start to your sketchbook. Very powerful traditional stuff you've got going on there. Can't wait to see what you manage to pull with your shiny new Wacom tablet.

    dTb,
These are beautiful!!!! Thanks for visiting my sketchbook. I LOVE working on quick sketches, but, in contrast to you, I'm looking for local long pose workshops around here. I really am needing to take some drawings through to the end. I feel the real test is in the finish with the choices one makes.

Will be watching to see what you do with digital. But, keep posting the traditional, 'cause your work is really strong.

WOW, now that is the best looking nudes I have seen in a while that slots outside erotica.

The anatomy is just so formy and rendery and solidy and stuff, and appealing.

    Red face

Wow, I didn't expect so many replies, thank you all so much for visiting.

Obstbrand: Thank you, and nice adjective

Frank Gressie: Thank you, I can't wait to start digital

    Peetaer
: Thanks, it's very exciting to finally have a tablet.

    Ethically Challenged: Thank you

AztcFireFlower: Wow, that means alot to me coming from you, I've been looking at your sketchbook for a long time now, and I am glad to hear you're doing long poses too, for me its very important to keep training in both. Thank you so much for visiting

    Nadiamoon: Thank you so much

    Tigermilk: Haha, thanks (I think)

    Zaorr: Thanks

Leonor: Thanks so much. My fantasy drawings are from imagination, for idea work I like to try and work on a figure's pose and gesture as much from imagination as possible.

    DeeLock: Wow, thanks!

Here we go, some sketches and my first digital painting with a tablet!
A couple of these sketches were inspired by Janaschi's sketchbook project that she started with algenpfleger, here's a link to her sketchbook---they're both very inspirational, so please visit if you have time.

I might work more on the painting, but Ill post it up in this state, thanks for looking

wow beautiful work man, I love those 2 pencil studies up top, and that digital piece is really good.

I'd be really interested in knowing how you went about those first 2 studies,
I've been lifedrawing for ages now, without too much improvement.
Were they day long poses? and what sort of pencils did you use?
I find it pretty tough getting a smooth gradient out of my ones.

    sorry about the interrogation

and keep these puppies comin, I'm lovin em so far

dTb - Hey buddy! I am sooo glad you started a sketchbook because when I saw yours in person it blew my mind. Please feel free to share some progress drawings and/or 1 ounce containers of talent with the rest of us!

Seriously though - I think it's great that you got a tablet and I'm insanely inspired at how well you're doing with it! Are these sketches pre-Reverie or post-Reverie? I'm interested to know what, if anything, has changed about your approach or your work in general after that AWESOME workshop.

Thank you all for visiting and the support, it means so much to me.

Krato: Thanks---I'm not certain but I assume you mean the very first two figure drawings, which were done with a range of HB-4B probably

Jacky-Boy: Thanks for visiting, and I don't mind the questions , the very top two figure drawings were worked on for about 5 3hour sessions, and the pencils are just regular graphite pencils (sorry I'm not sure what brand specifically) but the range is HB-4B.

Mike Butkus: Oh wow, thank you so much! You're work is amazing and very inspirational to me, thank you for visiting

    bushido haha, Thanks for looking

maldrin MALDRIN!!!111! Yay, I'm glad you found the sketchbook, I should've sent you a link when I started it. I really should start making more WIP shots, its interesting to look back at the evolution of some pieces, so hopefully I'll have somegood ones to post in the future. I love my new toy too, the tablet is so incredible, already I wish I could do the workshop over again and keep a better eye on how everyone used theirs. Alot of the work in the first post is pre reverie, the second post is all afterwards. But as far as my approach post Dallas goes, I think my whole outlook on visual art has changed, I feel more confident in what I'm doing and my exploration of a new medium. I do want to continue working in oils, but I feel digital is a bit more practical (and much less stressful) for my idea work right now. We'll see what happens , but thanks for visiting

staticpen: Thanks, coming to these boards over the years has meant so much to me, and Dallas was such an important experience to me, so contributing to the community is something thats very meaningful to me now, thank you for your comment!

Gloominati : Thank you so much.

Eerin: You and me both, Thank you for visiting!

Timer : Thanks, I'll try to keep it coming.

Toffeeliz: Wow, thank you very much, I love the colors in flesh, and the ability to layer in oil paint can creat really marvelous tones, thanks for you comments, I'll try to post more progress shots for everyone to see.

    Helltroll Thanks alot!

Blue Severin Thank you, I really appreciate it.

Finally, some recent work, life drawing, idea sketches, a quick self portrait drawing and two WIPS---one in oil and one in digital. Still learning what all this tablet is capable of, what a marvelous little tool. Thanks for looking everyone!

Heeey, I really like how you use colors in your life drawings, dude. Amazing paintings, too. The subject matter is really something I haven't seen too many other places, and you're pulling it off with lovely color selection and composition. You're running on all cylinders, mate!
Oh yeah, the digital gig is sharp. I dig it, man. Looks very painterly, which I'm always down for. Cheers!
