    help emulating brush style

    Hi guys,

Having a bit of trouble getting a brush style down. I'm trying to emulate the backgrounds of Muramasa: The Demon Blade

What I'm finding hard is trying to get the right brush settings. Can anyone give me a hand? tutorials, detailed brush settings or even brush downloads etc would help. I am using PSCS3. Here's a link to an image of the landscape I'm trying to do. What I'm trying to do first is the paint daub shapes of the earth on the path (under the characters feet) and go on from there.

And here's a link to a page with other artwork: [link]

Once again I'm using PSCS3 and I do not have Painter (If you're gonna suggest using that).

Assuming that George Kamitani, a art director of this game, has done those background, he mostly probably uses a ordinary round brush. In other words, those painterly brushstrokes are imitated not by Photoshop, but by artist itself. So if you want to achieve such effect - learn traditional painting! I'm a big fan of Kamitani's artwork and I did even a small investigation on his artworks - I've tried to contact him, but company's representative said they can't let out personal informations and contact has broken. I've found on internet a very high (maybe even a original) resolution artwork and I could see that artist doesn't use any custom brushes. His experience and knowledge were enough to achieve such lovely brushstrokes.
