Ok, its nearly done(phew this took so long) the girl needs some work in terms of shading(not my strength atm) and her clothes. Any and all crits on all elements of the painting are welcome!

The general idea is the sun has exploded and this is a snap shot of the world in its last seconds. I wanted the girl to look detached from the events, the idea being that humanity has become so plugged in we hardly interact with the world any more( i cant be the only one who both loves and hates my computer out there =p )

Oh btw I made the image in painter x with a resolution of 150 pix per inch i think i should had gone higher. Does any one have any idea on what an industry standard on this kinda stuff is?

Someone probably knows better than me, but for the industry standard, I don't think you should go below 300 dpi for printing.

I don't really like to critique work that on par/better than mine because I think my advice doesn't matter as much, but I'll give it a shot.

The colors seem hazy, and are all pretty dull. I'll assume the light source is that huge sun/thing behind the throne in the distance. What I think you should do is make the colors more intense, and the shadows on the woman/throne need to be more pronounced. If the only light source is behind them, the background should be lighter, and the woman/throne should be darker.

I hope this quick blender render can help demonstrate my point. I put the lamp behind the "throne" and set it to sun, pointing it at the throne.

All valid points but they leave me with an issue i was a bit afraid of. I still want the female to be a central figure in the picture with the lighting ive chosen the chair would probaly be mostly blacked out and you probaly woudent see much of the woman at all, unless i some how introduce a new source of lighting for her hmm maybe ill toss in some blinky puter lights and darken all they dont illuminate

The problem is the BG is that the suns light is ment to be super intense(its blowing up heh dident reaaly have a ref on that one =p) it would bleach out alot of defining colours but i really should try and make more stuff pop, i think it would work with the buildings closer to the foreground.

Thanks for your ideas! they were a great help and never be afraid to crit i find its almost always helpfull to get anoters view on an image its some time hard to get a fresh set of eyes!
