TEAM CHOW SIGN UP THREAD

DESCRIPTION

Okay boys and girls!

I've had this rolling around in my head for a little while now, and with Reverie coming up in Dallas, I thought this would be a good time to implement it.

We all know the competitive nature of CHOW, but I'd like to try out something different. This time we're going to focus on team work.

This will be a one-month contest. It will run alongside the regular chows, so if you aren't interested in participating, you don't have to feel left out of the regular activity, and if you'd like to do both, you have plenty of time.

This is going to be a beta test, as we've never done anything like this before, so the rules aren't going to be as set in stone as the usual chow's - it's probably going to take some tweaking to get things right. So please, if you have an idea or suggestion about how to make this run smoothly, please post it here.


In the meantime, this is how it's going to run:

- Please use this thread to sign up and find a team. If you would rather be assigned a team rather than find your own, please post so here, and I will make up teams out of those that ask. I will not add to teams already created, just out of those without a team.

-Teams will consist of 2-4 people. How this works is up to you, and how many people you want to work with. You may not play by yourself, you must at least have a partner. If there is a group of 5-6 people that wish to participate together, you may PM me with why you want such a large group and I may let it pass.

-Sign up will take place over the next week. You can still sign up later in the contest, but this will give you a week to coordinate with your team members and brainstorm for the coming contest. In order to sign up, each member must post in this thread that they wish to participate. When those members decide to form a group, ONE member must make a new post with each of the group member's names and the group name. (ie. The Hound Dogs, or similarily dumb things like that).

-When the teams are submitted, I will edit the following post with all the teams. If I happen to miss your team in the thread, just send either me or Poshspice a gentle PM and we will correct the error.

-In ONE WEEK I will announce the rest of the contest. Aka, you will know what you're going to draw. I will however, tell you the basic idea so that you have time to brainstorm:

• You will get SIX CHARACTERS that your team must design. The characters will not have a genre or time period associated with them.
  
• You will have to work together to come up with an over-all design, theme, genre and time period for the project. You may start on this now. But you will not know the exact characters you have to create until next week.

sounds like an interesting project though I'd have difficulty commiting regularly. Especially as the team would be spread apart and only communicate via the internet?

There would also be issues with who would buddy up with you? you may not be able to get into a group. Perhaps if you were to group people in different groups each task? this ensures all participants get to be part of the team.

While I think working in collaboration with others is a great idea but logistics means that it would add extra stressors.

It'll be up to the team to decide which tasks are assigned to which people. This is part of learning teamwork!

I'm not saying it's going to be easy, I just think it's a good focus.

Open Canvas I would certainly recommend, as well as IRC, AIM, MSN, google chat ect, as well as pms. Not sure what meebo is?

However, please don't make individual threads here in chow. You're welcome to go open a group sketchbook thread in the sketchbook section, but only official chow thread should be posted in this sub forum, otherwise it will get really messy really fast. :]

That sounds like a great idea! Art can be a rather lonely endeavour at times. I don't know if I'll be able to find teammates since I'm still relatively new... But, anyone out there, if you've seen my stuff and think I could help out, I'm all for it; PM me!

Really great idea......I would like to participate........but I don't really know if anyone will want me in their team....as my skills are not exactly the greatest right now...............but well.......who knows....

Daestwen and Poshspice: maybe make bigger teams with 3 or 4 artists with great skills and add 1 or 2 not so good like me?? it would not implicate so much a group and could make the begginers to learn from this good artists.... It would be kind of a trainee program....

It's just an idea......and I would totaly understand if I'm out for now....

I think this is a really good idea and could be a lot of fun... provided there is an even playing field. So I'm with Daniela here 100%... and I'm willing to go wherever.

But... I have to be totally honest if I see a groups of Posh, Bumskee, Vorace and JessiBean's forming together (for example)... what will be the point of this challenge? If it is really to be a community building exercise each group should have people of various skill levels and it shouldn't be the usual buddies getting together.

I think mixing it up will have much more interesting, unexpected results and be a challenge for everyone in different ways. I'm sure Posh and Daestwen don't need more to do... but I really think groups should be "approved" based on variation of the people in it.

The point is having fun and just participating! All those names participate regularly in CHOW and that doesn't stop people of other skill levels from entering. The challenge is in making an effort to get something cool done with other people, whether is your friends from the community, or new people who want to exchange ideas, skills, processes, whatever. Even when there might be "buddies" around, probably not all of them have shared a common project and I think it's a nice opportunity to do so.

I think you took my point the wrong way... it wasn't to complain about the popular people or cliques around CA being discouraging. I know fun is the most important but I think mixing it up will be more fun. I plan to participate either way, and will be putting my money where my mouth is and take my chances with the unfamiliar. So Daestwen... assign me where you will!

There is no way my idea will be implemented so no reason for anyone to get worried that they won't be able to play with their friends or that you might get stuck with me... well unless you don't sign up with a group. *Mwahahahahaha*

Seems like the hardest part might be getting teams formed I'd suggest people group up with similiar interests maybe or styles? Or maybe even by disciplines... like someone might be good at line art, someone else coloring, another backgrounds, etc? I dunno, that might be a dumb approach... but might make it a bit more streamlined.
