hey guys!

my name is Stanislaw (i'm 19) and i finally decided to make a sketchbook because i have to improve and this place is the best to do that. but not only the artistic part, also my english isn't very great and when i write and read in english i'll get better soon (well ... hope so Oo)

ok, here it goes:
i love drawing and my head is full of incredible ideas, but i can't draw them because i can't get the perspective and anatomy right. and there is also a big problem with my use of colours (i just mix them toegether without any clue)
at the moment i'm really down ...

i really hope you guys can give me good critique and show me where my problems are (and maybe how i could fix them)
and i have no problem to redraw a whole picture!

ok, enough words, i'll give you a more or less random insight in my work now.

PS: if i write something wrong (grammar) or use a strange sentence, you can tell me whats wrong (please? ^^ as i said, have to improve my english)

if i can use refernces it's a general representation. but from imagination ...
i'll post some sketches later and i want to try posting sketches every day. One part with ref and one without ref.

Hey Sarkys, I like your inked anatomy sketches from your first post - would be cool to see more of those.

Maybe you should do a painting of your workspace too - it's a cool little scene!

thanks for the comments, but don't be afraid to give hard critique! i know there are some issues

tomjones: yeah, i like the ink pen too, but my art teacher lend me the pen. i have to buy it cause i like the effect and the workflow.
and i dont feel able to do a painting of my workspace (yet ^^)
first i have to do more studys on perspective and anatomy

take your own advice, don't be so hard on yourself. your english is pretty good, i didn't have any trouble understanding you, but it's good to want to improve. i'm not expert, but if you're drawing well from reference (and i can tell you are), keep doing it. draw from reference until you feel comfortable pulling that information from your memory and reproducing it to fit your imagination. and use your sketchbook for motivation, that's what i do, and it's working so far. keep plugging away, it's clear you have natural ability.

that being said, i agree that the ink drawings in the second picture posted are quite nice. maybe you can explore that further.

Your sketches are looking good, some better than others. Drawing from imagination is hard, I know, I have the same problem and everyone advises me to just draw anatomy, learn from what you see and eventually you will have drawn it so often that you'll just be able to draw it without reference.


Also, your English is fine!

Joe824: yes, that's what i wanted to do, training with refernces to be able to draw without them. and this sketchbook is really motivating it was a good idea to start one.
and to get a Stella you have to come to belgium ^^

Cranberry: yep, i'm belgian ^^ and i just love stella
i was born in russia, then moved to belgium (a region where the people speak only german ^^) and now i have to study in french which is a bit annoying but not very hard cause it's more about graphics and stuff.
and yeah, i know i have to draw and draw and draw ... and draw. and someday i will be able to express my ideas ^^

meinst du man lernt mehr mit "learning by doing" oder mit theorie und damit verbundenes zeichnen?

HerrleerzeichenS: Beides muss du machen. Am Anfang ist es natürlich sehr praktisch und auch wichtiger Anatomie zu studieren und die Struktur dessen was du zeichnen willst. Aber nebenbei muss du auch einfach diese "life studys" machen und frei zeichnen.
Du musst versuchen beides gleich wichtig zu behandeln, so lernt man am meisten. Und ganz wichtig ist es auch Werke zu kopieren, ja du hast richtig gehört ^^
Wenn dir ein Werk gefällt (sei es nun von Michelangelo oder von jemandem hier auf CA.org) dann versuche es zu kopieren! Versuche herauszufinden warum es so gut aussieht und wie der Künstler diesen Effekt erreicht hat.

Aber ja, am Anfang musst du dich schon auf die Basics konzentrieren, und da kommst du um Anatomie studieren nicht herum, auch wenns manchmal sehr frustrierend sein kann.

nice stuff you have! I can see that you are doing some anatomy studies so that will pay of soon! Keep it up and take your time to do some drawings you'll be fine! good luck!

Well, you draw anatomy better than I do so I can't give you much advice. With you digital paintings you colors look flat because there is little contrast. Something that helps me is to make things almost monochromatic in the beginning to get good contrast and volume and then add different colors as I go along.

But your sketches are very good and so is your english.

I always dig anatomy studies. Pencil and paper, oh yea.
Make sure to couple Hogarth with other teachers. Loomis is popular
and he's free. I've got Jeno Barcsay also. Just make sure to cover
all angles if possible. Life studies of course.

conc3.jpg is where I'm at. I'm trying to check my own back, but
it's not defined enough yet, and I don't have x-ray vision.

Do your experiments on the side, but always come get your basics down.
Keep it up and enjoy the journey.

You are really coming along in your studies. I would suggest doing gestures, as they help to loosen you up and they help with anatomy, perspective and balance of your dimensions. Not to mention they only take like 2 min to do and they are not detailed at all. I think you will improve immensely, and you are off to a great start. Keep it Up.
