Red face My Scribbles~~~Charcoal and Illustration!@

    Hi everyone !

I'm 22 and I'm from Saudi Arabia... I recently graduated from an Interior Design Engineering course. I love drawing characters and I want to get better with my work , I want to be the best saudi artist ever ... I hope I'll be able to share my work often here with you all and get good advice and help.

I've always wanted to make a sketchbook here but was too afraid to. I know my art needs so much work....I think it is time for me to improve and I was going through the other sketchbooks and saw how big of a change there was from when they first started out. I hope that I will be able to see such an improvement in my work.

The main areas I want to improve with are: Environments- Colors- Shadows and Painting

I'm posting some of my very old work right before I stopped drawing seriously, then I'll start with the newer things

I was doing some work with pose maniac and I want to get better with anatomy because i always have so much trouble with poses and my characters are so stiff...

Good start - I am glad you made the sketchbook; it can be an intimidating forum because it's so busy and so much amazing work.

But it's good making a sketchbook!

    I love your digital portraits!

As Karein says - practice all the basics, I can see you have already started.

Learn lots and lots about lighting and how it affects objects, surface, colours etc!

You will be good in no time, keep posting

kingkostas: Thank you! It's the nice people who comment that help motivate me as well, so thanks for stopping by.
AlexTooth:Thanks , ya I'm going to try to focus on still life and environments for the time being and to keep working on posemaniac and such
Karein:Thank you for the encouragement, it's so helpful

I finally scanned some of my moleskine notebook , I really should scan more but I got tired... tomorrow I'll get some more done and have some more practice pieces as well.

Good stuff! Your digital paintings show a lot of promise - I'd try broadening your pallette a little? At the moment each peice seems to have a nice, but quite limited range of colours.

    Right

Yeah, you're right, I struggle still with using different colors in a piece convincingly , I know most of the rules but I fail when I try to apply them :< Thats part of the reason why I'm here , for my next drawing to the sketchbook I'll try broad range color palettes..

I finally got a hold of Loomis books so hopefully my color mixing and compositons and figures should improve .

Just going to dump the stuff i did recently...please dont be scared to critique me harshly ...I need it...and I need encouragement too if you feel I deserve it...

    Thanks.

    Hello Amianna!
Nice start to an SB! Keep it up and I believe you can be the best female Saudi artist ever! Just keep on drawing and learning and improving!
My favorites right now are images 4 and 5 in your last update.
Also, keep on doing those anatomy studies, try to do them daily. I try to do 2 pages a day myself ( i don't always succeed though...)
I can't comment on your digital work since I see that you are better at it than me..
Looking forward to seeing more from you!

thanks for the kind words in SB!

i think u have a great start and really luv u portait studies particularly the audrey hepburn and ur latest self portrait, nice works =)

i think in the latest self portrait darker blacks could have been used on the right side of the image to help create a stronger silhouette and push the face out; u have reallly nice mid greys in the face also cute portrait =P

keep up the hard work and in no time u will be numero uno conceptual artist in Saudi Arabia!!

Some good stuff, you can go far! You've also got some funny drawings!

To get away from stiff characters, experiment with curved lines of action. But don't listen to me, listen to Loomis.

Considering color, check out stuff about color perspective for environments and play around lots with saturation (and hue and lightless too, of course).
My sketchbook contains cartoon studies and Pokémon.

The characters you draw in the more cartoon like style have loads of personality, I really like that about them, and your human figures are well on their way, just keep doing those studies, just keep your own eye critical when you're working, you'll spot the flaws.

Hey, this is a good start! The best thing you could've done was start a sketchbook on here!

Saudi Arabia huh? Its a small world after all

I think your goal is an attainable one, unless you're as lazy as I am

    Good work!

the ANGRY filipino I don't think my digital stuff is better than yours! I remember seeing your sketchbook about a year ago and really feeling like I sucked so much at drawing x)

snootchy Thanks for the advice and for the support! It means a lot to me.

Jasper Flick Thanks, that's exactly what I've been doing, there are so many helpful things in his books D:

    sketcheth
I've been keeping my eye critical and it's been helping me a lot. I'm waking up every day a little bit better than the day before. I'm glad you like my cartoons, I have much more practice with cartoons than with realism, even though I can do realism I've never really studied it like I'm doing now so it's a big challenge.

bluemonika Thanks! It's a portrait of the lovely Audrey Hepburn. She is so beautiful. It was after I watched My Fair Lady.

drd Thank you so much! I was rethinking my goal, and I don't want to only be the best female..I want to be the best regardless of gender. ;D

    Here's my update finally...
Ok , besides playing with color mixing on painter I've been doing a lot of charcoal work, I'm only just barely beginning to understand how it works. I learned that charcoal looks best on my newsprint paper. It makes it go on so smooth and nice. Now I just have to perfect it D:/

I also did some more Pose Maniac, filled up the whole sketchbook almost so I wont be scanning all that :< Only will show one page from it.

Theres a WIP of the Daily sketch robot dude..I was trying to fix the problems in my first one, I think I did it but it's going to take some time to complete and I had to work on this other thing first.

An illustration I'm working on, some comments and critiques would be greatly appreciated because I'll be submitting it for a contest. I already know the values are a bit off because I switched it to gray scale and was all "OHCRAP it's all the same color" so I'll be fixing that tomorrow..just tell me other stuff please on how i can make it better. Thank you in advance!

    Hi Amianna!
Nice update! You are too kind.
Keep going with those studies. It must have been challenging to fraw a face over a previous skull sketch...should try that some time,
And I love the fact that as got down to the last 2 pics above, i go from being charged by an army of scary looking robots and all of a sudden be greeted by the welcoming faces of such nice Muslim women...that in itslef is a surreal experience!

I know what you mean. Its easy to fall off, I have to make myself get up in the morning before work, and at least try to get some gesture drawings in. Just in case I dont have time after work. Anywho! you got some really good stuff, I really like the feet studies! Keep it up!

You've got some raw skills there. Never did get to Saudi when my parents were there, visited a few of your neighbours though. If you can paint fruit from photos, you can do them from life. Just put it close to your tablet. You have to paint quick before they rot.

You've got some cool works. Try to work images as a whole, going gradfually into details. That way, they'll be more coherent. Also, your self portraits are quite good, so don't be afraid to develop them further than just sketches.
    keep up the work!
