777- Sketchbook -(Figures, Anatomy & Random Doodlings) - Occasional Nudity

Well, its been a while (about a year) but have decided to start posting pics again. - I want to really push my photoshop skills this year and also condense and refine my figure drawing.

Every time I have a scan of the sketchbooks on here, I am blown away by the skills on display, most recently - abravenewworld's sketch book.

taking my work beyond construction is my main goal, so I think I am going to have to work through some tutorials.

I was posting on here about a year ago, but that work makes me cringe a bit now....I spent the rest of last year focused on oil painting - check out my website, if your intersted.

Im not really clued up how to use photoshop as a tool for creating art yet!

I could have sketched this out, in about 10/15mins on paper...but wanted to try layers and also drawing with my wacom! took hours!.....cant seem to get a very smooth line??

if anyone can suggest a good basic tutorial...my guess is that I now draw in lines in a heavy black, then work on tonal composition & then colour....any tips would be good!

    Hey there.

Nice shading on the anatomy pose. The calfs might be a tad too thick, but still acceptable.

As far as my experience with wacom goes, you'll grow into it. At first it feels really unnatural, but the smooth lines will come. Just doodle around.

decided...drawing with wacom might be a bit ambitious at this stage.....maybe for tonal studies...but for line work I think I might stick to traditional media then scan.

As to my skills re:subsequent editing in PS....i def need some pointers!

    working on my manaquin stage.

These are based around the loomis manaquin....I think I was drawing my legs too low. Eg based on an eight head model, I thought legs should start around mid point....however closer look at loomis...shows i to be a bit higher than that!....(my insight of the day!)....his simplified pelvis, seems to work really well.

Some older charcoal studies. - skulls from museum and velazquez Pope.

If anyone can give me some advice re:photoshop that would be great.....I want to be able to sketch figures and then develop, tones and colours. At the moment im just guessing my way through...if anyone knows some good tutorials that would be great!

    Lovely sketchbook!
I like the skull studies and the wee pose-practice doodles, your anatomy studies seem to be going well.
I must say though, that still life of the mannaquin in the cluttered room is my favourate so far, keep up the good work!
