Easyer way to draw a Straight line in painter X?

so yah im not terribly fond of the connect the dot line tool in painter X. Im still very new to this program/all digital media, Is there an easier way to get a a wack of geometrical line work done, maybe even a tool/option similar to MS paints click a point and extend a straight line tool?

There is the SHIFT key shortcut. Though, it will do horizontal, and diagonal lines.

If you hadn't said you didn't like it, I would have said the ideal candidate is the Straight Line Brush option in Painter. You can click and drag a line with that. What is it that you don't like about it or what is it that it doesn't do?

well its not all bad, Im annoyed that once you place a line the next line you place automatically starts at the end point of the previous line, thus making zig zags. This zig zag connecting lines has been great at times but annoying when im placing lines that dont connect.

My current solution is to click the freehand button and then select the line tool again if theres a short cut to doing these that could save me some time or maybe some option i could select to modify it?

Ah yes, I see, that is slightly irritating. I use the hot keys - V and B.

Shortcuts: Edit>Preferences>Customize Keys

You don't have to hit another button "reset" the line tool in Painter. Mine is "v". I just keep hitting "v" the whole time to start a new line segment.

If all else fails, get something to really lag your computer and Painter will make straight lines for you.

Here its the magic trick, you can press v while using the brush but the lines ends glued together right. So if you want to do separated lines, every time you do a new line click V again and again, so the brush will reset and starts a new line separated from the rest.

Learned this click on painter factory, its pretty handly for vanishing points.

Have you ever tried pressing v each time you want to do a new line, so the lines ends separated without gluing each other, grab the brush press v to make a new line, and then v again to start a new line in another way, and another v for a new one far away. Thats what i use instead of paths, which are really annoying.

Thanks all folks this was really helpfull, i can do cityscapes sooo fast now ^_^.
I also Love Jinny Browns webpage, thats an awesome resource for some one like me. I don't find this stuff intuitive at all.

Hi Oxide,

I'd like to add my thanks to both Arshes for the referral and to you for your kind words about PixelAlley.

It's been quite a while since I updated that site and it's in serious need of my attention, especially for Painter 12 information. I hope to be past another demanding project soon, and free to spend some time with Painter 12 and PixelAlley.

Oxide, a lot of people find Corel Painter not intuitive at first. Eventually, they become less overwhelmed and more comfortable, then actually friends with Painter. Don't be discouraged. I've used Painter for 17 years and taught Painter off and on for more than half of that time, so I'm speaking from experience. It's wonderful to see a newcomer get over that first stage and begin to have some fun. You will too.
