Yeah, it looks to me like the bidding on this one hasn't even started yet. You can almost feel all the heavy hitters sitting back, waiting.

I once found a copy of Stanislav Szukalski's Projects in Design on ebay. I think its from 1923. Very rare. At the time I didn't think anybody knew who Szukalski was. There was like 4 days left on the bidding and no bids yet. So I sat back and waited until about an hour before the end of bidding and still nobody had bid so I stepped up and put in my 40 dollar bid. There was something like a 20 dollar reserve so with like 8 minutes to go I was winning at 20 bucks. At five minutes, I was winning at 40. This was cutting it close and I didn't want to lose the book by a measly dollar or two so I upped my bid to 80. Well, with about two minutes left, I was winning at 60 and then with a minute left I was losing at 81. All of a sudden there was 8 other bidders. So I put in 100 and pressed "bid". But by the time the screen refreshed the bid was 300. I couldn't believe my eyes. I refreshed again and the bid was 800 and then again and the bid was 1300. I think the final bid was something in the neighborhood of 3400.

That's when I learned what it really means to be a serious collector. And I wasn't in the ballpark.

Amaaaazing book. It'll sell for loads and loads of money methinks. Probably too much for most of us artist-types. At least the nice folk selling it shared a ton of pages. All saved and sorted for future reference!

That means it was privately sold, found to be stolen or some other "legal" discrepancy showed up in its "history."

It's just an old book. Unless you're a crackpot collector I don't see how it could be worth more than say, $200?

And while I'll admit that I'd enjoy having it in my possession, I know that it'd be more for bragging rights than anything else.

Though the perspective, especially of the larger scenes is ...interesting, to say the least.

Or if you just like the smell of old calfskin binding, it's tops. All in all, we don't need anything outside of the necessities. I certainly don't need my Celtic brooches or that Lord of the Rings mini-Glamdring that I have sitting on my shelf, but it's nice to have just in case, you know?
