    P.O.W.! Challenge 21--EXTENDED!

    P.O.W.! Challenge 21
Deadline: Sunday, March 22, 2009, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.

    Topic: My Pet...

I chose something obvious as a title, but I want you to really push this one to an extreme. A pet is a living (usually) creature that is in a subservient and trusting relationship with a more intelligent/advanced creature. That covers a lot of territory, so let's see what we can do with it... Be as cute/gross/broad-in-interpretation as you wish. You can interpret the art any way you wish, and the more creatively, the better. Any media. B&W or Color.

You can present your solution as a minimum of TWO to a tentative maximum of SIX pages which adhere to standard comic specs as below...and, yes, you can have the first or last (or both) as a splash page if you want. You can go to additional pages without asking if you have a decent idea that requires it--just don't get too extreme on page counts

    Standard Comic Book Size:

    --Trim size: 6 5/8" x 10 1/4"
    --Live art area: 6" x 9"
    --Bleed size before trimming: 6 7/8" x 10 1/2" (1/8" in all directions)

This thread will be the place you ask questions on this challenge, trash talk, post WIPs and post your final art. See the READ THIS FIRST thread for all specs.

    Good luck.

P.O.W.! Challenge 22 will be posted before Sunday Midnight, March 22, 2009.

    ************************************************** ***

A little note here for all of you who have supported the P.O.W.! Challenges...thankyewthankyewthankyew...

Just a reminder--those of you who didn't get a chance to finish exactly the way you wanted to, or ran into deadline problems, remember there is a sticky section where you can post your stuff when you do get it up to speed.

"...plays on the double feature screen. Your pet went straight to DVD." Wait... I don't think "pet" is the right word for that song. I hope I can actually finish this one. I always get about 1/2 way through. It takes me FOREVER to finish these!

ive been really fascinated by subtext and implied relationships, so i think the narrative of the images and dialog will not always follow a linear progression. instead i'm going to focus more on presenting an abstraction of the theme of being subordinate and dominant.

A vision of a little girl saying, "Fluffy doesn't like you..." just flashed before me, so I'm pretty sure I'm in this one...

    Ok, so 2 things....

    1. I did the mock-up for mine today in my analog sketchbook. It's only a few pages, so I think I might actually be able to do this one. My figures/characters still need some work, but I've got the tools for that.

    2. Hapun: Thanks for pointing out the quick sketch of the dimensions, mentioned in the "Comic book standard size:" directions. I'm trying to make an "Action" that automatically sets up the page, some and some grid lines. That made it hella easier!

Ok.... I'm dropping the 1st set of sketches. I've got a lot of work to do.

    -Complete words and sounds
    -Make decisions on Borders
    -Resize Panels
    -Ink Panels
    -Color

Let me know if you have any major suggestions or concerns.

    Whoa nice sketches guys!

Grief: Can't wait to see yours, it looks sexy. (lolcats) I think I'll also be doing people, but pet in a different sense.

Deuce: Looks good! huhh crits... can't really tell anything from sketches but maybe add some variation in angles and fix perspective while finalizing.

I believe in you Deuce, PERSEVERANCE!

I finally got started today, hopefully I'll finish by 22. (no more SAT stress!!)
Just wondering if anybody can help me redline the arms for the large panel on this WIP?
I'm having a lot of difficulty with them right now, and it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure where this one is going...

    Hi!

I only found out about P.O.W. a couple of weeks ago (I'm slow!) but I was delighted since I love sequential art! I decided to try my hand at this challenge but was tied up with work (and CHOW, I admit) so I only started yesterday morning .

Even though there is a big chance I won't make it to the finals, I'll give it my best shot (I grabbed the page template form the rules thread and I hope I am using it correctly).

So here is 'My Pet' so far. I still have to draw the actual panels. I had an idea for either a serious real-life drama or a completely ludicrous tale... So of course I went with the drama.

I posted at 11:58 PM *gasp* *wheeze*... I think my files might not be named properly: I only had time to add the page# on the images and reduce their size :/. Oh well... Even if I don't make it, I had a good time!

i have some process panels in my sketchbook, but the finished product will be late.

looking good everyone, i definately need to invest proper time regularly into these instead of working on them for an short burst every few days.

    Okay, people...

This was one of the nicest starts that we've had in a long time. Sekino's is great and will be declared winner if those of you who made such a strong start don't get me at least two--TWO---pages completed of your idea by next Sunday night (March 29), more if you can... I'll try to get you all a note PM in the morning in case you don't check in here. If you do see this post, just use the THANKS button so I know you know about the extension.

You have five additional days from now because I would really like to have a poll with this one, and I need your work to do it. Mine's penciled roughly, but not anywhere near finished, too, so I'll try to get at least a couple pages randomly done also, at least as clean pencils.

I'm putting up the next Challenge right now, but I'm going to count the extra five days here as an overlap, so you will have almost THREE weeks to finish the next one.
