Gimme a break, Arshes! I've only posted 3 pics, and I can't find them myself!
I'll see what I can dig up tomorrow.....
This is probably one of the most entertaining threads on CA right now.
Here's a simple one of Ogreboy. The slight texture in the background isn't really supposed to be there. It's the text of some log that was on the back of the scrap page I did the pencil on.
Chriskot - Nicely done! You made me look rather dignified.![]()

There you go;Aphotic Phoenix kindly sent me the links. (Thanks, Phoenix)
Here are two of you guys. I hate the one I did of Stoph, I will retry I think. Oh well, just trying to contribute.
Any tips for doing eyes while sketching? Mine always look terrible.
FraserMcT - Good charicature!![]()
When comes to drawing eyes, as with anything else, draw what you see and not what you think it looks like. Confusing statement, I know.
I recommend finding/collecting some magazines, comic books, or anything you can find with pictures of people. Then start filling a page or two in your sketch book with nothing but the feature you want to work on, the eyes(this will work for any part of the anatomy you can think of also). Draw as many sets as you can on the page, and remember to draw only what you see. Once you have done this a few times you'll have a foundation that will become instinctive when sketching later.
If you haven't already, start a sketchbook on CA, and you'll be able to take advantage of the most valuable asset this site has to offer. The wealth of knowledge and experience your fellow artists here have to share.
I'll be having a stab at Sorkand maybe moar awsm CA peepz.
Since its the rules, here's my facebook profile pic album gallery thingie. please dont feel obliged to look <_< and most certainly dont feel like you must read the dumbass comments I make... I has a fail. The first one is me and Slash, if anyone wants to take a stab at him btw, altho Stoph did capture him quite accurately!

Well this might sound funny, but stop thinking of "I gotta draw the eyes...because eyes look like this, or nose...blah blah blah"
Think in shapes. What shape do you relate with the most in the overall picture. Don't be afraid to reverse your picture like holding it up to a light or a mirror to look for mistakes. Loomis, Bridgman are great for breaking down the figure in simple geometric shapes. However, these are guides...they help with general proportions but even they say to notice that the proportions are not absolute and it takes that practice thing to get it right.
When I used your photo as reference, I was looking for measuring points, not just "I know you have eyes, a nose and a mouth!" I was looking at the basic shapes of the darks ..distance from the other points in your face... then just did a general contour line (to be honest it's something of a false contour because I did lift my pen and break - and reworked the entire thing a few times, occasionally flipping to check for errors).
Of course there are mistakes and decisions I shouldn't have done by the time I was done but that's just part of the process.
For example, Stoph's picture he has an interesting dark area looks like a few artists aren't taking advantage of for proportional placement.
When you're doing caricature it's pretty much the same, but an exaggeration of those features...you just break it down to shapes, and stop thinking of it as "eye" "nose" "cheek" etc... in the sense of a preconceived memory of what those objects are.
