I really really like your style. I would love to go in a similar direction in the future, childrenbook illustration is such a great job I think. COlours and style are very interesting and really draw you in. I guess the image with the two kids flying on abee could use some more perspective enhancing effects ion the background.
My favourite is the latest image. I just love the colour and the little red string.
Very nice
These are all really nice. Really good stuff.
Oh man you're the guy. I tried to register as Bill when I joined this site. Maybe I should have gone with Billy instead of bcarman. Oh well thanks for the kind words. You want to do the rock, paper, scissors thing for the name. Guess not since you already have it. Janos, dong kids' books is enjoyable but really takes a commitment. You do it for the love and not the pay. Of course the ceiling is really high if you reach the upper echelon. Just takes large chunks of time. I just like doing too many things. But I know i'll get to another book some time.
I discovered your blog a while ago, I absolutely love your work! Your quirky characters are awesome.
I didn't know you were on CA as well, I'm so happy I found this thread, totally filled with goodnessGreat shapes and colors, thanks for sharing!

I am so jealous of those people who can come up with some insane, crazy creative stuff like this. I never had that much creativity, which is why I keep to realism (siiigh).
Thank you for posting this, I really, truly admire this. Love your use of dark tones to enhance the mood of these.

Downright beautiful stuff you have here. Lovely.
Didn't really know the etiquette of this post. Do I add on the end like this or go back to the beginning or just start a new thread? Anyway I just did it this way, don't yell at me if it's wrong. This is probably the closest thing to concept art that I do. These are characters in a story I'm working on about Boschian characters trying to get to the Garden instead of being relegated to Hell simply because of the way they look. They are odd but have great personalities.

Yeah, you know I'd love to do a Gorey, or Grimly kind of thing. A little twisted. Thanks for the comments.
Amazing! Please post more![]()
Love the colors, especially in that first one.
Very nice stuff. Have you been working for a long time? I feel like I've seen stuff by you in children's books I read when I was a kid. Maybe it's just you were influenced by that style.
I have been doing this for quite awhile but unless you are very young you wouldn't have enjoyed my children's book. I did one published by Random House in 2002 called "What's That Noise?". I have, however, been influenced by many things throughout my life and career so I'm sure that's what you are seeing. Thanks for the kind words guys.
Love that style! It remember mi Bosh, very nice!

amazing. reminds me of salvidor dali. and a bit of "the labryth", the movie with david bowe as a wizard? very cool stuff
Here are the first and last pages of a comic I did for a Yugoslavian comic anthology. I didn't want to post all 12 pages and clutter up the site (if this is against the rules and I should post all of the images here please let me know) so if you want to see it all it's at my blog: http://billcarman.blogspot.com.
I've also included something a little more mainstream. It's a cover for Polly Horvath's "The Canning Season". It really is a great teen/young adult novel. Anyway I like the variety of work that illustration affords me.

I love the knight and the monster, although I would like it even more without the eye (of the monster)
Are you working with watercolors, Acryl or is that only digital ?
this is awesome!!!
The style is similar to that of my old schoolbooks...Though in different theme, but the style is very oldschool, well at least where I come from...
But there's no school like old school...
Old school,or no school,biat**!![]()
Glad you all like this stuff. I always wonder where my work will strike a chord. Vaejoun: this piece is done with acrylics and a digital finish, mostly assembly. And 3vil, I am old school. Well maybe new old school. Been around for awhile so I was probably influenced by those guys in your old schoolbooks.
Wow, I lost the gift of speech! Your pictures amazing!
I so want to express to you my admiration, but my English is too bad.
how u draw, what materials do u use?
I'll keep posting until someone kicks me out of here. More weird for those who enjoy weird.

Your "To the Garden" post is so beautiful on many levels. The paint is the image and the image is the paint - a oneness of technique and intent. Marvelous stuff, the colour just seems so much part of the drawing.
PS: as for just adding images at the end of the thread - I think it is the best way of doing it. One thing you could do is to delete all the images on the first post and add the new images there as well in order to change the thumbnail. The original images can then be added to your second post of the thread to save you keep reloading them onto the first post.......if ya see what I mean.
EDIT: Ignore what I just said about changing the thumbnail - you seem to have sorted that already, and far more expediently than my ham-fisted way of doing it!

I think your images are impressive because they are infact, unique, which is a word I don't throw around too often, great job!! Can't wait to see more!!
ooh, i got addicted to these - please post more !!!! hats off to this style of yours : it quite powerfully draws into these quirky worlds you are creating![]()
