hi all!

i've been browsing in this forum for quite some time, and i had my toughts about posting stuff seeing such professional works here, but i have to start somewhere... i wanna use this thread as a sketchbook kinda thing, were i post more or less often more or less finished stuff. the first one was inspired by a photo made by Mehmet Akin (not an exact copy, just liked the picture), for the second i used various photo references, and the pirate head was made after i saw the pirated from the great Andy Bergholtz (didn't try to copy it, just liked the style)

also, since i started to play with chavant clay lately, and i saw a lot of you guys make awesome traditional sculpts, i thought i post some first tests of a laser scanner i built at home (really cheap and easy way to digitalize your models for further refining, rendering or anything else inside a 3d package) i personally want to use it to take the workflow a bit away from the pc... the scanned statue (anatomy model made by Andrew Cawrse www.freedomofteach.com) could use another view from beyond to avoid bugs between the legs, also a much more detailed version could be achieved, but its only made for testing reasons. more info if you like to built an own here - http://www.david-laserscanner.com/

Hey dan,
Your sculpts are amazing. I also tried to get away from the pc.
so I bought the dvd 'mastering the human head - skull ' by Andrew Carwse.

There he sculpts a skull with waterbased clay. Really cool dvd, I ve nearly finished my skull, and will post it here soon.
Does anybody know when the next dvd will be released?

thanks, im glad you like them ! i bought that one too, in fact every product they release, i hope they release the new dvd soon. i try to make a skull every other week or so, its a very good training i think.

Wow! The level of detail to these is absolutely incredible! I really love the Samurais and I think you've done a spectacular job in capturing the detail of their armour. These would make some really impressive bronze sculpts I think.
