DESCRIPTION

Baba Yaga, notoriously evil witch of legend.

For recent renditions, I suggest 'Hellboy' and 'Fables'.

Again, like Titania, free to interpret, though a sci-fi baba yaga might be a little out of place. :]

This is my entry.

Hey all, haven't posted for a very long time. I thought this would be a decent opportunity to jump back into the game. I enjoy depicting the more subtle nature of the character. I liked the idea of her floating through clouds and covering her tracks with her broom. Someone who may invoke curiosity out of children instead of fear to entice them into her clutches.

The story behind mine is my perception of witches in general. Since historically, witches were most often loners or weirdoes who got accused of evil doings out of superstition or spite, I figured maybe mythological witches suffered the same fate

So here's my Baba Yaga: She might tell you to get off her lawn but she won't eat your kids

This was a real great exercise, especially as a first jump into CA. I look forward to participating in more! : )

I realize my concept is off the wall as far as witches go, so I felt an explanation was necessary:

Old Lady Baba lives on the outskirts of one of humanity's last cities. She sees humanity as a bane to the earth, and she longs to wipe it from the earth if it takes doing it one child at a time. She is protected by elemental magic and her three guardians Night, Dawn and Day. Night, Dawn and Day are more than guardians they are a scale on which Baba weighs one's soul. If the guardians do not attack at Baba's command then she knows that the person is one with the world.

Well I picked a tough week to try and stand with the crowd.. Anywho It's my first attempt at a digital piece. No real formal training when it comes to charcters and very little drawing skill.. I'm just here to learn and get better.. And I'm sure I will with the crowd that frequents here..

My piece was more of a experiment to see how far i could comfortably take an idea in digital painting. I was planning on taking the piece into colour but the cardinal rule of art prevented me from doing this.. " always have fun, first and for most" !

Next time I promise to focus more on concept and not so much on techique.

Amazingly inspirational work from everyone BTW.
