Oh man, I've been viewing this site from afar since 2005... each time I'm intimidated even more and more and more, but NOW IS THE TIME I FINALLY JOIN. I want to get better, please take a look and tear my drawings apart. :3

EDIT: I also apologize for the bad composition. I don't have photoshop and my digital camera is pretty awful.

Powerfull stuff. I think I speak for everyone when I say that you need to post more.

A first post is little to go on for high value comments and first posts are usually a mix of stuff from a wider time frame.

I like your last pic's tonal power. Keep em comming!

    From Life Drawing class...

The man posing for us reminded me of Bill from Left 4 Dead sooo much... I really wanted to ask him to come in wearing camo, but I believe that is a strange request when you're posing nude. Hehehe.

The skeleton is incomplete. Funny story, actually. It was homework over the weekend, but it slipped my mind and I forgot about it. I worked on it for three hours last night and left with a major headache. Drawing the entire skeleton, fully rendered for the first time is hard work!!

Here are some little dudes I'm doing for a Color Theory project in class...

Supposed to do a gameboard and the professor gave us the idea to be, get this, CREATIVE. I totally want historical figures to fight alien zombie peppers.

Yeah, it's not going to make sense, whatevs.

Continued from my Color Theory project...

Gave a shot at caricatures. I think I did them well for a first try.

I'll post the other two later today.

    EDIT: Here they are!

Here's a self-portrait I did... Sorry, the image looks like crap (stupid flourescent lights), but it's the best picture I could get.

Anyway, I spent probably a total of 18 hours on it. I'm aware that the arms look awful and I crapped out on the hands (its deadline snuck up on me), but I'm proud of it because it's the largest painting I've ever done and the only painting I've done with a life reference (myself).

Late late late update, but still an update, right? Also, sorry for quality, but I don't have a scanner to work with at the moment. ):

I've been doing studies... and a few doodles here and there.

The spinal column is still incomplete because I'm a lazy, lazy person.

The characters are Kaiba, Popo, and Neiro from the anime Kaiba.

    The mannican drawings are Loomis.

More drawings from last night/this morning.

    1. Some more mannican poses using photographs as references.

    2. My roommate had a mask she had to do a full value drawing of. I joined in and did some contour drawings... I like them. I kind of wish I did an entire page without the mannican drawings, but I've become so ecological that I MUST NOT WASTE MY PAPERSSSSS.

    3. I started this drawing as a contour of my roommate - don't take it seriously, I just love doing contours. Then I started using a brush pen to render the shadows, but it turned out like crap.

    4. Some copies from a figure drawing book. The skeleton needed a tutu.

    5. MORE MANNICANS!

    1. Contour drawing of my friends' apartment... it's a mess!! I felt like I needed some practice drawing atmospheric stuff. I tried to put in some perspective but it didn't seem to have much of an effect. Oh well... At least I finished it!!

    2. Random character. Her left arm is missing because I didn't know where to put it. Mmmphhhhhh... red lines would be nice.

Hi there, you have some nice stuff in here. Good grasp on anatomy, keep doing the figure studies it's always helpful.
Also, I wanted to point out that I really like the first drawing in post #9. It may not be accurate but it has something raw, that makes it interesting.
It's full of life, and I something that's something you should strive for in your art, I know I try to.

    Keep drawing, keep updating

Duuuuuude you gotta post your work more often! Good start! Great to see you using loomis and doing other studies. Your rendering is good but your latest post doesn't show it...try to push that more if you can and maybe do some drawings from imagination utilizing what you've learned through studies. Keep it up!

MORE CONTOURS. I JUST FREAKING LOVE CONTOURS. HOLY CRAP.

Another of the apartment featured in an earlier post.

SeB_C_BiEn - Thank you very much! I always thought that I had a terrible grasp of anatomy, but I guess that's because I never drew with any references until I started these.

    jackpot_anjr90
    - Thank you, I will try to start rendering more even with short poses. I guess speed is something I should work on as well. I take forever to make full value drawings because I'm so picky about light and shadow... EVERYTHING HAS TO BE PERFECT.

    1. Colored an older picture with watercolor... the power went out and I couldn't really see anything I was drawing - no candles allowed in dorms and I'm dumb enough to NOT bring a flashlight.

    2. Arm/hand studies.

Hey guys, I've almost finished this for CMPA 110. I've posted it in the studies and works in progress forum, but I haven't really received any feedback (over about a week's period of updates on it... :/ ) so if you all have something to say about it, I'd be very happy to hear it.

    I took some liberties, obviously...

I'm really freaking proud of those sunglasses...

    Major update!!

I'm so mad at myself, I've been working my butt off for this sketchbook - since it's also a requirement to have a sketchbook full of drawings cover-to-cover - and even though I work hard, bring my sketchbook everywhere, and draw everything, I still only have it halfway filled...

Sometimes I wish I were environmentally unethical and use just one side of the pages...

Anyway, I'm proud of what I have and I'm hoping for the best.

Done for my Art History 2 final...

I love The Nightmare... and I love oil pastels [especially Senneleir brand].

Bleh... I don't like her face... or her dress - I ran out of white so I was too scared to go back and work on her that I might mess up.

Hey guys, I'm having a crisis...

I can do studies and I can duplicate and understand why shapes go where, but when it comes right down to it, I can't draw without a reference... at all. I was feeling depressed today because I couldn't even draw a figure without it looking messed up and contorted - I started crying. Heh... I've been working hard for so long and it just doesn't seem to be paying off and I'm surrounded by prodigies not just on CA but in my environment as well. I'm a student at Savannah College of Art and Design and people in my grade are legions ahead of me in the artistic field. I feel so inadequate and useless and that my artistic ability (or lack thereof) will not take me anywhere in life. I feel like I shouldn't even be at an art school with how much I can't do.

I guess I'm just looking for consolation... or something.

Start drawing from your imagination and if it sucks who cares? even michaelangelo started his career with a bunch of sketches he probably hated. You gotta start somewhere, dont worry if there are others better than you out there, that won't help.

Your biggest enemy of this whole deal of becoming a better artist will almost always be yourself. Pick yourself up by your bootstraps and just focus on your art. Don't worry about how much better your classmates are, or where the prodigies on conceptart.org are, only worry about yourself, and your art. Learn the basics, anatomy, perspective, color, draw from your imagination as well as from life, but most importantly stick with it.I'm sure you've heard the quote "Rome wasn't built in a day." well, keep that in mind.

Oh, and watch this video. its the most motivational stuff i could find:

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

I could not have said this better myself.
You and I are about the same age. I can totally relate to the frustration you feel when you look at the work of artists that are leagues ahead of us. I get that frustration all the time too.
I can see that you are very talented and observant, but talent alone will not take you as far as experience will.
I can bet my bottom dollar that if you keep drawing everyday, within a few years, you will produce art you never even dreamed you'd be capable of!
Go find your earilest possible drawings and compare them to what you have now.
You'll be surprised how noticeable your improvement over the years is.
Don't give up, and the way I see it, there's probably somebody out there who envies your artistic ability.
My knowledge of scientific biological transmogrifications is only outmatched by my zest for Kung-Fu treachery.

Hey guys. Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been getting over some emotional issues and transferring to a college back near my home in Maryland. So... Yeah. I guess my apathy also contributes to the emptiness.

Oh well, enough of that. Here's a small update of my most recent digital piece... Fanart, I know. Simplistic, I know. But I feel that I've improved.

    I also love Gatomon. owo

You know, I never realized until now how much work has to go into CA sketchbooks to make it to the second page. D:

    Some watercolors from Watercolor I.

The first two images were done on the same day. The first is not shown with a mount because I chose black and as my colleagues said, it took way too much away from the colours.
