they kept me for 1 week for obervation and such apart from the spelling mistake (:p) it always sounds weird to me when doctors want to keep you for observation
they do a lot of stuff and they don't find much..or the quite opposite, they do less and find it all out

but enough babbling, great to see you back with that trusty pencil in your hand
still life looks wonderful! i really like the way you painted that juice

    yeahhhh whos back? Ice's back!
the fruit are good, I would say the edges of the melon in the middle are too sharp, even if you cut it with knife I don't believe melon can have such razor sharp edges, besides that it looks great! next time try composing your fruit/objects better, this time you barely took advantage of the banana because most of it is behind the melon, my russian art teacher his name is Sasha was really proud of that fact that he could setup kick ass compositions for drawing and painting from life and he would tell us "I setup kickass compositions for you, and when I look at it it makes me proud" haha.

Those are some really nice studies! The values in particular.

And be sure to spend as much time as you can with your family, girlfriend and friends!

man i love those "random concepts" you did on page 22. the one on the right is really awesome. The photo studies are amazing too. how do you approach coloring. do you do a grayscale first and apply color afterwards or just start with color right away?

Hmmm...I guess I'd better throw in a belated Happy Birthday as well...but only in a 10-point font, because thats the kind of shallow, heartless bastard I am...hehe.

Try to stay sane man, I think you will, you seem to know what the important things are in life. Free school sounds interesting...do they pay for room and board? Myself, right now, I would find the sheer time spent being in class instead`of drawing would make me a little crazy...hehe, crazier that is.

    ---

I think you should try to direct your studies a bit more around a few particular subjects that you need to understand better, or to build up your mental library of images...

I'd like to see some of your recent creative pieces rendered out, or some new rendered pieces from imagination whichever. Form seems to be holding together pretty well. Definitely take your time though, and constantly try bring to mind a clear intention for your image. As you work, you should be making a series of choices or decisions that add up to a total effect.

Hehe...sorry, all that talk about Ice makes me think of Vanilla Ice..."Ice Ice Baay-bee"
sketchbook...a kitten dies every time you don't comment

“When forced to work within a strict framework,
the imagination is taxed to its utmost – and will
produce its richest ideas. Given total freedom,
the work is likely to sprawl.”

Solid improvement throughout your sketchbook man, moleskin drawings are looking awesome (makes me wanna get one!) and I love the rendering in this pic http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1278365092

Don't worry about the whole going away to school thing, your gonna have a blast dude. My first year was pretty bleh...but now that I'm home for the summer I can't wait to go back for the second year. And for free!? Damn dude I'm getting eaten ALIVE by college expenses. Keep up the hard work and really push yourself once you get to school!

    Hey dude
The rock house looks a bit flat I think the reason is because the values are pretty similar throughout the painting, part of the reason I think is because the reference might be misleading and not correct what I do to check values when I'm working is creating an Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and lower the saturation to 0 and just turn that layer on and off, I find it the quickest way to check my values you can see it in the example I added, now for references at times the photos do not look correct so I use the Curves adjustment layer to add contrast/Light which shows me the values and planes better, don't be afraid to adjust your references the photos are lying and things looks correctly only through our eyes, that's why it's so important to draw from life because after you master that you can paint a 3D environment on a 2D space convincingly.
And a reminder to work with big shapes at start and narrow it down, I'm sure your doing it

About the B&W landscape I'm not sure what makes it not entirely work, it maybe the many points of interest you have and maybe the values, but I do know when I looked at it first I was confused and couldn't understand right away what I'm looking at (might be because I had a cold for few days) but maybe you should decide what are the points of interest and emphasize them more, is it the ship in the distance? or is it the sun/moon with city? or is the main emphasis on the druid with the staff, or is it all of them? you could also add more weight to the foreground to make it stand out more and feel like a foreground, it looks like you kinda randomly sprayed some textures there without making sure the viewer will know it's foreground.

hope this helps, i'll update my junk soon too, cya there...

The first sketch in post 711 is beautiful. I can see from your scans and character sketches you have a pretty solid grasp of values. Can't wait to see more.

Some really nice sketches you've got up there! I think for this latest environment piece you really need to work on perspective...particularly with the doors and windows. That should be one of the first things you think about in an environment piece. Value and form also need work in that one. The top half is pretty unreadable and that huge white wall is too consistent in value. Think of where your light source is coming from and apply your values accordingly.
It's a good start though, keep it up!

Havent stopped in a while and its good to see you still going though your lifes changes the past while. The value sketches were fun, and another vote into the bucket for your great values in your moleskin page

I think with your landscape with the ship and city is a point that ThomasM helped me realizer...maybe the focal areas are all spaced out too close together and our eye can't rest on any one of them for very long. One solution I see is to push the city wayyy to the right to balance it, even extending the canvas if you have to. Try and make a 'rhythm' in the spacing of your focal areas so you have room to breathe. Good work

    ThomasM Thanks!

Jasper_ Yeah the college's here are free for the most of the time ( not always tho ) This is last year, when it's free so it is a huuuge chance to become a proffessional fro not tons of $
Take care and thanks for the visit.

Danny_K You are right about all of what you said, and i know aall of this but sometimes those little stuff just fly away from my brain ( especially when it's so freaking hot ! :/ ) It makes me even more ashamed fro not reminding myself all those little, yet important things. Take care D, my man.

    krel Danke! : )

jackpot_anjr90 Hey thanks for advice, perspective is indeed my problem, however all those windows were twisted in different directions and not on the same lvl, as those houses were carved in a solid rock ; )

Jakers Looong time, no see Jake! Glad you're here. I know that i'm a lamer when it comes to enviros, but you're absolutely right. Just to mention i was going to delete this monk/ hood guy with the staff, in the end, but i kept everything on one layer as this was just meant to be a quick sketch. Layer managment, layer managment, layer managment....my bad ^^'

Sooo i'm posting to let you guys know, that i'm still alive and running!
It was the second day of the schol today and the first day of actually doing something. We had Intro to Maya 2011 at 3d basics today (man this soft is sooooo massive, I bet it can even cook muahaha. I felt like a pilot of the plane, soooo many buttons, even more menus and each menu has its own 30-40 menus hahaha )
Anyhoot i've made a simple scene with a snowman and snowy landscape just as a first day warm up. We then went at the Dunajec river ( check it out ) To draw ourselves from life surrounded by plain nature, it was super cool altho it was too hot to focus. I did some quick sketches, but I ain't got a scanner here and won't have one anysoon so you'll have to wait till i my old camera will be sent to me, so i can atleast take crappy pictures.
We will have concept design tomorrow, so i'll hopefully have something to show.
I wish you all the best and have a great day

    ~I.

P.S Sorry for not updating with any images attached today guys, you'll have to excuse me, i'm stil brain-raped by Maya x]
