First portrait ever, from photo refference, he is a friend of mine.
His pullover had like a bilion of stripes so i just made it simple

My first digi paint ever ( background is just a lame done filler ;P)
I had no idea of blending and such it was before i found CA forums.

Done in haste caricature, (i know i failed at glasses

And here it is, first exercise from Bumskee's thread, an ONION! ;D

Hope You enjoy! Coments and Crits are welcome all the time!

that portrait shows a lot of skill. you realllllly need to push the darks though...if you did that, that portrait would be really amazing. I'm really surprised it's your first one!

Thanks for the advice, and yes it really is my 1st portrait ever.

here's the one with adjusted levels and contast, it looks a bit less realistic in some places now however.

A small update, another exercise this time i drew a human knight being based on a piece made by awesome artist Daarken with a little twist, so it's just a try to be like this guy exercise.

    EDIT:

Nearly ten months have past since i bought my love, my shiny wonderful Intuos3.
Taking a look back at the past i'm proud how much i did improve, however i'm also
angry at myself; For being so lazy, and working too little at improving my skills. I should
draw more often i know, and i will try to overcome my weakness which is being lazy
sometimes. I hope the next year 2010, will bring even more joy to my and especially
your eyes. Thank's for all those who supported me in this long curvy and rocky road.
    This the first milestone...

Looks really nice... but I can't help but think that knight has some really heroic proportions. 8+ heads high (I guess is ok)...

There's something that just makes his head seem a bit puny... I guess is what I'm looking to say. Still a very skilled drawing.

The adjusted portrait is a lot better, trust me. Values are one of the most important thing to describe a form and make it look 3 dimensional. Try to use bigger brushes especially when starting out on a portrait and block in the areas that share the same value, then go on from there...

That was a sweet gasmask design and an awesome knife. Your early pencil drawings were nice also. Keep up the good work.

That first portrait is reallly good dude...did you overlay the photo to get everything all lined up in the early stages?

I would say aside from that you should do more studies if you want to learn how to paint...the imagination stuff has ideas in it, and isnt terrible, however studying real things will go far into showing your imagination!

I would really look into some bridgman or loomis etc. to learn to draw using shape construction

Thanks, you are absolutely right, i need to do more studies however i lack the patience, i'm too damn lazy ehh. I guess problem lays somewher inside my head i need to poke myselft to do the hard work ^^
I'm aware, that I lack basic knowledge, yep those books would help, i've even did get loomis and will study more with it i promise! :]

As for the portrait i used the photo refference to do a quick sketch to catch the placement as you noticed.

Here's a sketch from Loomis book which was the refference:
(Looks way better on paper, scanned stuff sucks =/ )

Hey Ice, I found your sketchbook looks nice
I liked the stinger sword, looks like an orc warchief sword that have seen endless battles and is all worn out from war.

A work in progress, pose is from refference, because my anatomy drawing skills are way too bad at the moment. It's going to be somewhat of a fire element chick with some punk accesories, ofcourse if i wont change my plans on the fly hehe.

    + a doodle!
