    The Arty Smarty - UPDATED

Go to the last page for the newest pics!

    Hello Ca!

Although the time of year for this kind of thing is a bit predictable, I've decided to start a fresh, I need a new sketchbook (the old one is found dead in the depths of CA for those who know where to look).

So the names Kyle Tobias Smart (Smarty), I'm 20 and to get to the point where I am now artistically has took little or no effort. Sounds great right!? no... I've grown lazy, my peers are starting to overtake me and I've realised through some specific threads and meeting a couple of specific people since my move to Bristol that to take it to the next level I need to step it up a couple of gears and just fucking do it! No more dreams of potential and broken promises of becoming a better artist, Its now on the intertube for all to see.

    Back to basics then.

nice gestures. If you're in that situation, try experimenting. be it colors, style, genre of characters or environments, etc. might help to get to the next level. Just a thought.
    Keep it up.

@kuroart - I study illustration at UWE, alot of the work we do there is experimental, I'll upload some of it after assesment. For now though, some more basics.

    good smarty, have a cookie.

As ever man the quick drawings are a really good idea, but balance it up with some long ass studies!I'm talking a good couple of hours, bare minimum, on one single study. It may be worth it to concentrate on cleaning your lines up as well, like you were talking about the Chan Man being able to do. Try drawing in ink and getting the exact right line the first time.

This is gonna be an awesome book dude, i can feel it in my bones.

Looks good what you posted here.

Personally I think you should go through some Sb if you need motivation.
The fact that someone is always better and is able to make such great things really motivates me to do something. (AND SOMETMES I´M REALLY LAZY)

Hope you reach your aims and that you´r able to level up.

Nice work, I really like your pencil drawings. The fast figure drawings are good to do, but I agree that you should try to use more pen and/or colors. The wolf is good, but definitely not up to par with your other sketches. The arm study is pretty good though. Keep it up, and try out some more new things!

Helloooo! Thanks for stoppin by my sketchbook!
Good stuff so far, I like the girl & wolf, especially how you made the lines on the trees. They could do with some more contrast, to make them really pop! Lookin forward to what other goodies you got comin up

Keep going at it! You can see some improvement form the first to he latest piece. Also make sure to exaggerate your tones a bit more to make them stand out as right now they look a bit too close to each other in terms of shading.

hallo Kyle, figures are looking good, i like the back shot life drawing, but id say maybe be a lil bit more careful with the faces like in your last one and the eye in the one with the wolf, maybe thats just me liking to draw faces lol
but tis looking good! i like the marks in the trees!

i love the arm studies, they have nice contrast

however i feel like the two nude studies could use some more, especially the areas you want to emphasize

@Joe, thanks for that link, that guy is amazing, some very nice ranges in value and intensity. At the moment I'm just trying to capture whats their, I'm not quite their with pushing and pulling thing to make the whole thing more appealling, definately something to tihnk about though, cheers again!
@Franbo, Yer my focus has sort of shifted a little from faces I got lazy on that last figure and i think the face was the last thing i ended up doing. Red riding hood does have a funny nose cresent and lower eyelid now you mention it aswell.
@Still, Yer my values could do with pushing further, along the lines of what i was saying to Joe, Thanks for the encouragement tohugh aswell.
@loveandasandwich, can i abreviate that somehow!? Thankyou, I might do one darker was over some of the background trees to bring the wolf forward a little more.
@everyoneelse, Thanks Guys! It really helps keep me motivated.

Heres some hands before bed, I'ts kinda hard sightsizing something so close to you, I'e my own hand. Also I have an odd thumb.

You're on a roll dude. Just keep going! It doesn't matter what it is. One day I decided that I am just going to go with that principle right there (it was also coupled with this feeling of wanting more and tasting glory) and now, 6-7 months later, I'm noticing big inspiring changes that just makes me WANT to learn more. That basic raw essence, that basic drive, is all you need. Just keep feeding the fire the right stuff and you'll be good.

Busy day today didn't have time for any anatomy warmups, BUT i did go to Bristol museum and talk to the curator their, she took me down into the stores and let me pick out things to draw. It was awesome! she was so helpful, the museum only displays 1% of the actual taxidermy type shit they have! Hopefully this will turn into a fortnightly thing. Heres a pidgeon head I chose.

Thanks guys! Jail house rock, your right, I've deprived facial studies a bit lately, luckily UWE just set me a 30 self portrait project.
