Thats great, a really cool concept.
I think maybe there's too much black used in the ogre's shading though. He is outside on what appears to be a very nice day so I would have though there would be a lot of light around.
Oh, and awesome texturing on the axe head

yep i second that, your shadows are very strong for an outside sunny day enviroment. And also compositionally you`ve got this empty space above
the girl and there seems to be a heart shape formed from the clouds around
it i can`t put my finger on it exactly :] but nevertheless it`s just too empty.
It could have been a nice opportunity to research on how classical artists draw clouds for instance and try to apply that in the painting. keep up the good work :]

nah man, if you take a photo outside on a clear day you're going to get ALOT of real hard dark shadows, i think the light is applied correctly.

my only grip is how the girls hair transforms into a shirt, haha
Do not, ever, under any circumstances, not have fun.

I couldn't help notice the concept similarities between this image and one I did some time ago - http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1180295129

Haha I loved it! Though I find the axe looks flat. Need some more work. Not just texture

But those aren't hard dark shadows, they're soft dark shadows, which imply a diffused light source with dark surroundings. (And photography is deceptive, since it doesn't have the same range of value sensitivity as the eye. Bright sunlight is high contrast, yes, but both the light and shadow have a lot of light in them.)

Ignatz - To be fair, I think you'll find the juxtaposition of child and monster in the oeuvre of a great many artists. There's one in Targete's artist profile and Baron Impossible posted a great example here recently. I think we can all agree this isn't a particularly original concept, nor something one could easily claim ownership of. ( Not that I'm suggesting you were. )

cg-monkey - It's cute. I like the texturing. Agreed with comments about the very dark shadows. I don't think they necessarily look 'wrong' but adding some definition to those areas would certainly serve your image better. Looking at the hires image it seems that you already have some subtle bounce light going on - maybe push that harder to get some detail and colour into the shadows? Interesting that you chose to have the girl's back to the viewer. Was that a deliberate, perhaps symbolic, choice? I would have thought she'd be more interesting to look at with a frontal presentation. I'd also echo the comments on the empty space. Mattinian's suggestion is good - you could really go to town on some groovy clouds. Alternatively, as your compositon is very two dimensional, perhaps you could push that graphic feel even further and empty the sky completely?

Thanks for the input Matt, Im sorry if I came off as though i were accusing anyone of anything (That was not my intention). I merely thought it was funny that I had a similar concept.
Ive seen similar illustrations in the past as well, and it's understandable that such things might happen.

BTW CG Monkey, keep up the good work.
