Thanks guys for the nice comments, here is some more stuff just for you.

After hundred of years of being servants and slaves to the olden people the freedom the imprisoned nomads got from the mongols led them to start populating cities and leave the nomadic life behind. Their culture prospered dramatically due to strong commercial bonds to "India" and the other newly founded nations after the fall of the Olden Empire. Keeping certain rituals and habits from their nomadic ancestors the arab people began worshipping the sun as a monotheistic god.

The Headress of the pope in the very last image is taken from an Alexander McQueen collection. I used it only because I didn't have the time to sketch the intended idea, but aas its very similar I chose to take the image and tamper with it.

Cool stuff man! Some of those have anatomic issues, but I understand that anatomy isn't the point of those anyways.

I'll be hijacking your references if you don't mind

    Keep it up!

    AimBiz: Thanks!

Morgado: Anatomy issues are my main problem, so please feel free to push me in the right direction.

MattGamer: Thank you. A certain consistancy is very important because it maked the work go faster and the end results are more comparable.

The tribes living in the jungles south of the Olden Empire have been living in harmony with nature since thousand of years. When the Olden people conquered the jungle a bloody war errupted but by infiltrating the religious castes of the natives the intruders managed to make them surrender. The tribes of the jungle were enslaved and brought to the Mountain of the Gods where they were used fore every need the blue blooded Olden people had. The few remaining natives adopted the believe in Death the Olden people had brought with them but swore to revenge their loss. When the "Mongols" attacked the Olden Empire the Jungle tribes started their own reconquista of the jungle by assaulting the cities that had been build on their earth and killing the intruders.

Nice tribespeople Janos! In fact excellent work on all of these character designs!!
If you get a chance, check out James Gurney's work on "Dinotopia: Journey to Chandara" (he often puts up images from it on his blog Gurney Journey). Post #930's moodboard really puts me in mind of it!

and good luck with the next stage of application to Stuttgart!

MacTire Wow, thank you for the link. I had never heard of Dinotopia, but I find it fascinating that his art is being shown in so many exhibitions worldwide (and its clearly very good, classical Illustration that I love). Thank you again!

    Lav Thank you

teapo Haha, nice to see someone read the text. Its hard for me to really let you share the story all these factions and people have, because me and my friend are building this world up from scratch (since over a year now) and its harder than one might think. We also have placeholder names at the moment (apart from the Olden people) so our "Mongols" got the name purely based on regional similarities.

    Biglu Thanks!

Knut Thanks. Research has been key to ne getting this far with my concepts.

The "Koreans" are the first people on XXX to have discovered the secret of iron. Living in an area with a large amount of natural ressources they developed unbelievably fast and started to expand their iron empire in all directions. First the jungles to the south were indoctrinated and the natives forced to supply a steady flow of wood to burn in the huge iron factories. Then the swampy lands to the west, where the "Koreans" build the slave city of "MingMing". The Godking, living in his iron castle and guarded by 66 iron spirits (women dressed in chains and equipped with a poisonous blade) made a fatal mistake when he decided to expand his Empire to the east, where the mongol tribes lived in small towns and villages. He had not anticipated an alliance of tribes to defend their land, and seeing how a sheer amount of numbers could easily crush few well equipped soldiers the "Mongols" attacked under the leadership of a Khan and crushed the Korean Empire. Nowadays the land formerly known as "Korea" is a province of the Khans Kingdom where the people work hard to pacify the needs of their new ruler.

    Kidult and Ivan Thanks!

The children of the giants, a name the "Irish" got because of their average heigth which lies at over 2 meters, live on the islands at the coast of the Empire. They live in townships and farm-families and pray to their godly ancestors the giants. After having successfully defended their islands in a war against the Empire that took over half a century, they now live in relative harmony. The different clans inhabit different islands and wear different kinds of striped clothes and once in a while small wars are started to keep the men active.

This latest set are nice! The rendering looks a lot cleaner and more thorough. Very, very nice work.

Only one question however (I can be so picky and curious.. not a good combo! ) : are these based off of the history of the Irish I know, or a story version? The shorts with the very strong, wide contrasting stripes looks a bit strange to me. In the grand scheme of things, shorts were originally just underwear and a very modern idea (especially for women). The shorts are combined with antlers and flowers and other more ancient and nature based icons which is I think the real reason its bugging me.

Anyway, not a comment on your artistic skills at all. Just a bit of musing on costume. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

    Conte and Braintree Thanks!

Pixie Trick Hey. The shorts are definitely a stretch, but the people represented are only supposed to be based on irish. The shorts are supposed to be a very traditional unisex fashion, which reflects the equalness of gender. I am happy to read comments like these that question the art. That is most important! I hope to see you again.

unnamed.device Wow, thanks. Saved you site straight away.

Rotor Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy creating it!

Fumble Thanks! Refernece was key to getting the right feel, I can really only give the advice to use the internet/library/surroundings as inspirations.

Lav Full rendering is my next step. But thats still far off, first I need to get to landscpae/architecture which will be especially hard for me. But after that some day to day scenes will by my main focus.

The Northern tribes of "Mongolia" call themselves "Eskimos". They live off the sea and sometimes on it. Fishing is their main way to gather food, but there are many different hunters dedicated to different prey: Fish, seals, bears and even humans. Gathering under the flag of the mighty Khan the "Eskimos" built naval vessels able to transport their warriors and launch an attack by sea on the Khans enemies.

Hey Janos! Thought I would stop by and look through what you've been up to. I'm really glad for your continued support in my sketchbook, thank you.

I really like all these people-cultural designs you pump out, you have gone a distance to research the ones inspiring you to create these and this really does show. I especially like the "Irish" ones, they really got a brit-irish feel on their desgn. Would be intresting seeing some of these in colour aswell.

The only critique on these are that the folding on the clothes could have been a bit better in some, example this one where the folds makes the cloth look really really thick when I think you want it to look like it is quite thin. http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1277392153
