Handed in the unfinished pope thing, got a B apparently, fuck knows how.

I'm going with Eleanor Rigby for the Beatles sketch, there's a line about a woman sitting by a window and something about a face in a jar that caught my attention.

Something new, there will be a complacent and stuck up looking white Persian cat in the foreground. Think I'm going to have the dog out off focus (which also means I don't have to detail it out too much which will save me some much needed time) and probably crop it a bit to be more dramatic.

Now I'm off to be sick

    Peace
    Dan

Update on the dog thing, disliking it more and more as I work on it, not really sure why. My work isn't exciting me anymore. Tear it apart

Not sure if I'll be doing a traditional or a digital self-portrait today so might be another update later.

    Peace
    Dan

Just found this great blog, I'm sure I'm probably pretty late on this one but figured I'd post it anyway. It's got great articles, some book extracts but more importantly images of some of the most beautiful images ever. Well worth scrolling back through the pages.

I haven't been to your thread lately Dan but it means I get a bag of tasty treats instead of just one or two. Last two pages are full of fantastic stuff. Brilliant mate.

values are fine for most part. just need to crank up your darks (where appropriate) and then come with with a few touches of lights to really pop the face.

really loving that last piece! The rendering is starting to look pretty good. Don't be afraid to push your values. Also the dog and cat pic is pretty cute. Would be cool to see these polished up really nicely. Keep it up, sorry about lack of crit, but next time.

Does the Albino have to be monochrome or can you give him pink eyes?

That dog and cat drawing is looking sweet. With the boy that's upset, just make an upset face while looking in the mirror and see what your face looks like. You can try to think of something that makes you upset and angry and take a picture of your face for ref.

You've got good skills. I think you're kinda like me and too hard on yourself. Let's try to believe in ourselves more! The negative thinking has a bad effect on trying to draw and be creative.

Peetaer and Roger - Yeah, you're right, I've given it the boost I think it needed, should have more of a go at the highlights though, looks like clay now.

le capitan- Cheers, polishing is in the works!

Byrd- plan is or was orangey eyes, that was just a greyscale study

tdHendrix - Thanks, I know I should do that, and next time I will, this one I wanted to try to do just from my current knowledge, a test of sorts.
Everyone says I'm too hard on myself, but I feel I need it at the moment.

Got a few bits and bobs, some quick life drawing, a few quick sketches and thumbnails. Plus some more finished stuff.

The cat dog thing is not the final version, I'm still playing around with how I'm going to crop it and the size of the cat in relation to the dog. Threw some colour on it and rendered a few bits out a little more. I quite like the dog being a bit more unrefined.

The portrait/image of that kid, I rendered it out some more, I did the other eye but didn't like it so painted over it. However i decided today that I don't like it, or really any of the stuff I've done so far for this project so I'm starting over, I need something with more dynamism, more about impact and stuff than emotion of rendering. So I'm working on new thumbnails.

Few portraits and stuff from my head, pretty pleased with a few of those, still need a shit load of work on my values and expressions.

Boxing sketch is or will be for a leaflet illustration brief, so I didn't worry about dramatic perspective or anything.

Also a few doodles and sketches just to amuse myself, the anatomy is rubbish and everything but they were fun so who cares.

    Ummm...yeah.

    Peace
    Dan

I think that for the purpouse of giving worthwhile comments, I would advise you to work more on your edges, and perhaps be a bit bilder with your strokes. Dare to go 100 and 100 on opacity and flow and use some crazy brushes

    Keep them edges tidy!

    Damn mister!

You have gona allout on me this time huh ..

Alright let me just stretch my fingers here..

On the first pages with the 4 faces, There is good control of medium!
Very nice soft cheeks though on some i think you could put some more presure on them.. but thats just my taste i think,, also ur right on what u mentioned in there.. Dont draw to small Btw i love you do the lips on those gals! They looks great!
The cowboy is cool but to dull ,, if i is a cowboy he chould be more badass.. more attitude,, thicker eyebrows maybe mor squezed eyes ( even more, eys ) andm aybe a little beard or mustage and dont for get the wringles in his mouthcorners,, this guy is suckin on somethin right, so his lip muscles tighten,, else the thing falls out of this mouth i think though its reall small.. ;D
Anyway just some more curves in his face would maybe make him look more of a badass
The portrait in profile fudging rocks,, i got no comment on that i think you rendered it very nicely.. so kudos on that

Then on that portrait with the glassed guy i think hes a little off here and there :o
But i guess should finish this huh? Or not ,, i barely finish any of mine either so..

On the figure drawing/lifedrawing stuff i can only say that you made good use of ur lines.
And that you got some good sence of structure in them.. though it never hurts to make a bone come out here or there.. just to show you and the viewer its not just a blob though people sometimes look like blobs

Im gonna leave the frankenstein open XD I think its humurous but i dont rly have tips on it or something

The albino painting on the other hand... I like what you did so far,, i think you rendered the nose and lips and chin and cheeks freakin awsome though i cant help to see you squeezed the eye .. or iris.. the pupil.. its not round anymore :o so this looks rly strange
Also a saturated brown wouldnt be my first choice, i'd go for icyblue,, though its so cliche

The dog and cat looks awsome! i dont know if ur donw with it but i love it so far
So keep it up on that !

The mafioso,, i love it !! I told you already that i love it,, and still do The expression is wonderfull and i totally dont miss his nose.. i rly dont XD Great work on this one!

The other two sketches are in such early stages its hard for me to critique on it, i like the ideas, thats for sure U always have this weird humor in ur work, its superb! So keep that their

And keep working hard! Go robot once in a while and i would love to see some of your studies

    GOGOGGOGOO DRAW !

Love the new update. Lots of cool stuff. Those are some pretty sweet faces without ref.

For the cowboy guy, it would have made it nicer if you spent a little bit of time to make the ears detailed to the same level as the rest of the face and drawn a quick cowboy hat to identify him as a cowboy.

The dog/cat picture is gonna be really cool when you finish it. I also like the mafia guy so far.

The iris should be pink, not amber if he's albino and the highlights are wrong, but the rest is fine.

The fat diner is amusing and I'd like to see it finished as well.

The dog and the cat are great, as are your recent dump of sketches, but I have to ask about the strange yellow line in the middle of the image. Am I missing something?

Mischeviouslittleelf - Thanks for the tips man, I do actually use 100%, I'm just really timid with the pen pressure

rogerb - Thanks for the in depth review man, we really need to start pushing ourselves, I'm thinking we should start giving each other assignments to do. I know I mentioned it before but I've been thinking about it more and I think it could be really worthwhile.

tdHendrix- thanks man, confession about the cowboy. (it's shameful) but it was just supposed to be a guys head, then I couldn't be bothered to draw the hair so I just left a line and rendered as if he was wearing a hat. I'm sorry for my lazyness!!!

    JailHouseRock2- thanks man

Ninjac- thanks man, but I got nothing on that tiger creature thing you posted the other week!

jigje - appreciate it man, but the boxers turned out rubbish! haha

Black Spot - Thanks, in the story he has tawny eyes so I had to stick to that otherwise you're right. I struggled with the eye highlights, I even tried making myself cry so I could reference myself, but I just kept laughing.

Hello, my name is Dan and I'm a slacker...
You know how sometimes you have days where you just can't seem to draw? Well I've been having one of those for the last fortnight. I know I should have just pushed through it but it was really annoying me and my motivation just went into the toilet. I'm determined to drag myself out of it now though.

Some studies for you Roger! fuck knows why you want to see them though
Few unfinished life sketches, some other doodles. Then the boxer illustration stuff, I didn't finish it, I threw some colour on last minute but it's terrible so I put the greyscale up as well. I have discovered African skin is alien to me. I did quite like the little guys head though.

    Peace
    Dan
