Grudge match: Kirpid vs. Bai Fan

Don't bother with this thread, it's a disgrace. No art fight, no winners only shame.

This is how it went down.

BaiFan you are an armchair critic and not an artist lacking or otherwise. And I think this forum provides a challenge area just for situations such as this. You provide the topic and I'll provide the talent. The looser changes their avatar to the winners choosing 'till they level up on the gladiator scale.

I'm not finished with my entry so reserve judgment. It's hardly refined, Lot's of features to cover and I have allot of work ahead of me. This WIP is here mostly to wet your appetites and put the dagger on the table.

I included a character to demonstrate the awesome applications of this weapon. I'm just getting warmed up.

Actually, this is what I wrote.

"Create a unique weapon based strongly in existing technology that can deal damage in no less than three ways yet is given as ornamental due to it's intricate design... intended for use in a feature film.

We both will need to provide concept, back story, either a textured low poly model with normal map or a textured high poly model and well lit render still.

The model can either be a working file or an orthographic series of wire frame stills."

"...from concept to a usable film asset... that is the challenge."

Please don't abridge what I wrote to make it easier on yourself. Either accept the terms, or don't.

Do I have to make a 3D model? if I do I can't accept the terms, because I don't have the software, nor can I master a 3D program over the weekend. This is ConceptArt.Org not CGtalk. I'd rather shoot a straight game of dice with you. You just focus what you do, your 3D model. and I'll focus on a thorough concept and presentation. You should have the upper hand in this one if you really know your software and can create a film ready 3D still.

Please don't back out of this, it makes us look bad (we already look bad enough). If there's anything I can do to compensate for whatever extra labor you put into your stills. I seriously want to see what you can do when you have something to prove.

I'm having a ball drawing up my concept. Don't you like drawing and modeling and such and stuff. Come on there's nothing wrong with a friendly contest. If you're afraid of an avatar I'll take that off the table.

There was nothing friendly about this contest, ever.

You picked a fight after I took the time to critique your work. You said that you can do better art than I can and challenged me so you could prove it.

I do feature film quality production work throughout all stages of the pipeline. I enjoy art (drawing, modeling and "stuff") but would rather spend my time finishing the art that I am already working on than putting you in your place.

Why should I have to color with crayons because you can't paint with oils?

If you can't step up to the terms of the challenge, then here is your next avatar. I think it is the best of your current work, and I am sick of looking at your current one.

Kirpid where is the thread that started this? just curious, you make it sound friendly, but Bai Fan says otherwise

If its not friendly, this challenge sounds like trouble, and I like what Bai Fan is doing for the Critique section, he's basically the one doing the grunt work, sure, it may not be a super-detailed crit, but he points stuff out directly, and doesnt pussyfoot around

I dont know, sounds like fighting words

The reason this whole thing started was because he posted some things in the critique section, and then was not only closed to critiques, but rude to the people trying to help.

    http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=142962

    http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=143769

I have no problem with people not taking critiques, because they are only suggestions as to what the poster thinks will help, but I find it personally aggravating when someone volunteers their time only to be chastised by the one asking for help.

If it's crayons vs. oils you should rule me with an arm tied behind your back and I didn't realize you found creating art rather than critiquing others to be more important. Good luck with that invisible artwork in you portfolio and those important links that lead you to a dead end. You are just booming with so much creativity. You bring inspiration to us all. You have shown me who the Tony Danza of these forums is. I'm sorry for wasting your time. if I would've known you would've taken the high road I wouldn't have wasted a perfectly good thread on this. Please don't waste anymore time critiquing my unworthy ass.
If you don't mind me I have a weapon design to finish.

    Nice, still the everlasting jerk.

If you are talking about my website, good one. Yes, my links are dead. Yes, there is no art in it. You also missed the technical issue on the contact page where the message doesn't send anywhere... but I will probably have that fixed by the time you read this.

I spent the past few weeks redoing it from scratch moron.

I critique people on here while I work on my site, which is why I have been here so much in the past couple of weeks.

I think you have missed the point. I have not conceded the challenge, you just can't step up to the terms.

If you feel like you are a better artist, you should AT LEAST be able to compete.

I like the avatar by the way. It shows more skill than the previous one and I think you should consider keeping it long term.

    Oops, more advice...
    sorry

Sorry Dude. I just want to squash it and move on. I read my last post and it was downright mean. You were trying to do me a favor with your brutal crits so I pushed back and had some fun doing so. That was the wrong thing to do. I would buy you a beer if I could.

I've been working hard on this concept so I'm posting one last pic. still not close to complete, but check it out. It is mostly expessed(about 3/4)

Kirpid, that’s big of you and I hope Bai Fan will agree.

I really wanted custard pie throwing machines with handbags at dawn. I had the popcorn all lined up and waiting.

    Neat designs.

I agree that it was big of him, and I was impressed. I was going to write a note thanking him for the apology, but I am pretty out of it right now and it slipped my mind. I am getting down to my deadline for having my web page and a few other things completed and have not slept in a couple of days trying to get everything done.

So, I guess this could be it. I accept the apology and am impressed with the change in demeanor. I like where the design was going and think it would be fun to keep refining it. That is one of the reasons I chose that topic. I thought it would be a great time to work on.

Maybe you should post it in the crit section... HA! (that was not meant maliciously)

It took me way to long to write this. My productivity is gone. I am going to sleep.
