    hey ashess

You're brave to give your drawings as a present, I would overwork a drawing to death if i did that.
The bottom eye looks a little strange and the lips need more work. I love that little hand and sleeve! Its perfecto. Maybe flip the image both vertically and horizontally. Another tip to get the forms in the right place is using the Lasso tool and then warp, it feels like molding the image like clay.

You are defiantly a level 10 baby drawing sorceress!

hehe aint I? well, some ppl actually asked for works as presents and they seem pretty appreciated. anyway, when I worked all analoge my storage was running out
your right about the eye. already printed, but I wanted to work on the print a little anyway, so I'll try fix it. I did turn m painting somewhere. that helped it was worse before.

I very much enjoyed browsing through your sketchbook! (+subscribe)
I've got two crits wich may or may not be of use to you.
    1. Try to branch out more. Do a lot of different things. Try different mediums! It really helps to learn new things fast!
    2. When doing pencil work, I would like to see you do more drawings based on dark/light, instead of using your pencil to make a line drawing, try using it more like charcoal.

well, thats it from me, I enjoy your work!
    Happy drawing

    hey Luckers!
thanks for the crit. I do try different media, but I guess my subject matter is a bit repetative haha! and ill admit I've been sticking to either my laptop or 'child save' materials. hehe. last year I tried aquarel and my baby son almost ate the yellow. but ill try and branch more.
you are most definitely right about the pencil drawing. I'll try that soon, though it's gonna take a new mindset.
here 's the finished baby drawing. guess the eye is still a bit weird.

Hey Ashess, yeah the face in the baby picture does indeed seem a little bit off.
Did you draw it like this or did you turn it a quarter so you saw the head normal side up?
Because if you drew it like this that would explain the problems with the eyes.

I'm going to say it again though. You should do more work while focusing on colour and light/dark. And let the subject just appear in from of you!
Don't focus on what you're drawing so much when you're drawing it.
A good way to start doing this is to draw negative space, this makes you see the shapes for what it really is.
You could for example first paint the canvas in a pink/orange skin colour.
And then paint the background over that. and really watch the shape of where the background meets the head. This way the shape of a more realistic head should eventually appear.

I feel like I need a bit too much words to say what I mean, but I hope it helps. Keep it up!

I drew these starting in the middle and just looking @ light. still, I feel like I am looking @ shape and what light does to it; which is little different from what I usually do. negative shape is definitely a good exercise I should do more often.

@ obacmar: yeah movement is rad huh. we should do animation exercises.. now thats movement. ahh, but they do take so long maybe im too lazy.

Wow your son is growing so fast. I remember
the date when you announced the birth and
look at him now. Just a bit more time and we
will have to prepare for his marriage.
Your work is going nice and shiny.
    Keep up the studies.

@ plissken: marriage?!? ahaha! so not ready to let him go yet ^^. what happened to the days...

hmm could use feedback on this. is achildrens story about an angry ( and a little sad) monster. but not completely happy with the design for it. want it to be hairy and so you can only see one eye... I got that I guess.

I am not sure about the monster inspirations,
I don't know, maybe watch the movie 'Friday the 13th'
or 'Nightmare on Elm Street' or maybe some of the old
    Yeti movies.
Either way, you are becoming more confident with
    your digital art skills.
    Let's celebrate this occasion.

@ltplissken- I dunno about those; the monster is only supposed to be a little scary. I watched elmstreet somewhere in my early teens and it scared the sht outta me! but I get what your saying. maybe a yeti is a nice idea..
@obacmar- 30 frames @12/sec is about 2 1/2 seconds. not a bad idea. ill be a bit of work, but let's give it a try 4 next week!

    glowing eyes

    hey ashess
I like the character development. The big baby eyes helps the monster feel cute. The furn bangs in-front of the big eyes are a great idea. I'm thinking maybe the creature has two designs....1st version is the cute vulnerable, sensitive one with the big baby eyes . the 2nd design is how the rest of the world sees it. IE. A big hairy monster with messy fur bangs hanging in front of his beady glowing eyes.

it might be a little while till I decide to do some animation BTW be patient with me, I want to do it in good time. I think I need to develop a character 1st ?or maybe I just use a mannikin ?

@anty: what you mean, actually longer then the ~4 hours I spent on this piece?
haha, no you're absolutely right. I should do a few really long pieces.
I'll try and get to one soon. I got a few outstanding promises I should see to first though.

I gave this away yesterday, but not before putting a few markers to it. I was pretty pleased after that; it made the piece a little less childish somehow.

Hey Ashess, yes. It does look like you are focusing more on shape, light and dark rather than the subject. -Keep going in that direction!
I think you are overdue on doing some colour studies, though!
I would really love to see some of those!
    Take care

Luckers- gooed point. I'dont seem to use much of any color lately... I'll look into it.
Plissken- thanks. I was pretty happy with it in the end. though it still feels somewhat like something a schoolgirl would make. just a little too sappy. of course, it's our horse. he's a bit of a macho/cuty, so maybe we do go sappy over him.. hehe.
did this in mirage, an animation program I used to love. as I worked I more and more wondered why I stopped using it.. its wonderfull.
now I know. the export function is broken. I cannot save the work for any practical purpose. in the end, I made screen shots of all the frames and exported in photoshop. bah.
