Maybe since as per the instructions for this particular Epic EOW 100, we aren't required to post a text description for what we create, the title we make up (text title? design? logo?) of the RPG we're creating the 5 environments for is very important?

Hey I gotta speak up about you trashing the Wheel of Time but letting RA Salvatore through without remand haha.
Also just to try to help someone else out, would a specific epic from the dragonlance setting be ok? Just saying seeing as you let the Drizzt Saga through which is just a series from the Forgotten Realms setting.
All that said I dont want to do any of those things. I was thinking either Bryce Courtenay's The Power of One or Yann Martell's Life of Pi. Life of Pi would be tough to come up with locations as most of it takes place on a lifeboat but I think enough are certainly there.
I might take on Hitchhiker's guide if everyone else abandoned it as well.

I saw that Dubious, thanks for being so kind and pointing that out, I was looking for another one, so I am going to do the "Volsunga saga"; The Völsunga saga is a legendary saga, a late 13th century Icelandic prose rendition of the origin and decline of the Volsung clan. It is largely based on epic poetry.

I was thinking about Altlas Shrugged, that would be sweet, a challenge for sure and very different from other things going on here, huge railroad stations, that old factory with vines grown over it. Wyatt's Torch would be awesome to draw.


But I'm currently halfway through the book so I don't think I could do it justice without knowing it fully.

I read the book when they did the cgtalk challenge way back and it immediately became one of my all time favorite novels. Although I never went through with creating any visuals...I figure better late than never.

chaosrocks thanks for the reply....so this challenge is not the usual concept, design and paint an environment? I did this image today...is it not on the right track? as I was just going to go and paint it? Am i meant to be laying it out in a certain way? This is the only one that was set at this angle because of the location...the others will be straight-layed out environments...flower bed environment, rabbits house, tea party etc etc etc. I have seen some environment designs for the LOST RPG and using them as a guide...http://www.nuro-art.com/

btw...there are so many posts on here about book choices...I wouldnt even dare to suggest Twilight as I think I may get a boot in my face as it not really epic...but THAT would be an awesome game

Oh gods.. this is such a great idea for EOW100... My heart leapt at the idea of tackling the weird and wonderful world of Gormenghast, I absolutely adored the first two novels, Tidus Groan went off on too weird a tangent for me though.

Though on thinking, I finished Count of Monte Cristo a couple of weeks ago, and would love to tackle some of the grandeur the environments in that book would have. Would that count as epic, Chaos?

And an extra week would be just the incentive I'd need to tear myself away from the CGTalk Steampunk challenge for a little while and try this out instead.

I'm kinda surprised that no one has picked Naomi Novik's Temeraire series yet, with its "what if" take on the epic Napoleonic Wars by dragon interference. I mean, Peter Jackson has even optioned all of her books now for movie development (he just bought the options for her last two books per the publishing newsletter I got earlier this week). Doesn't mean that they will actually become movies, but you never know.

I own a copy of Song of Roland and gave it serious thought, but I find the prospect of drawing a thousand mounted armored guys with spears a rather daunting challenge. Most of the environments are either that, or a thousand dead armored guys lying around with gore. There is the court of the moorish king and the court of Charlemagne but then after that we're back to all those dudes and horses. It's intimidating. I might try it now, just out of cussedness, but damn!!!

the scene in koei's take (on all gaming platforms, PS3, 360 etc.) really sucks for me, and the new red cliff movie doesnt do it for me either... but then it might be way over my league...

rationally, i should tackle one with more architectural theme... maybe the fountainhead... is that epic enough??!!!
