First signs of something outside the universe?

Reminds me a lot of dark matter at first, mabey this is a stonger evidence of the thoery that majority of gravity as a fundemental force lives in another dimension, kinda works in a way. I read about an alternative theory that after travelling VERY long distances, photons are actually slowing down, resulting in a shift within their spectrum, thus creating the impression of movement. According to these theories, space can stretch out into infinity actually.

I'm not saying that this is the truth and this finding would not indeed be fascinating. But I think in those spheres where physics has no means of proper experimentation and they only eye they have are pure mathematical games (like in the multiverse-theory and the string-theory and so many other theories...) one shouldn't really be jumping to assumptions as quickly as these articles do. I bet no one of the scientists actually making those observations are as thrilled as you are.

It may actually be possible to live forever though. What would have to be done is find the gene (or protein? I can't remember) in our cells the makes them go through apoptosis and remove it. The problem is, we'd have to find it for every type of cell in our body, IIRC.

The other solution would be to find a way tow upload the human consciousness onto a harddrive or something of the sort and then place that harddrive in a robot. Of course, the problem there is finding a harddrive big enough to house all our memories, thought processes, etc...

Still, it's something to think about, especially if there is something beyond the boundaries of our universe.

The cell damage has to do with how water expands when frozen. I remember talking to my tech school buddies about this and they always mentioned the only way successfully freeze someone without them dying is by flash freezing them.

If it ever becomes possible, I hope the guy in charge of unfreezing always greets me with "Welcome to the WOOOOOOOOOORLD OF TOMORROOOOOOOOOW!!!"

You kmow my girlfriend is an aspiring nanotech scientist and whenever she and I start a conversation bout the applications of nanotech she brings grey goo up. Now I'll admit i dont know much bout nanotech but wouldn't there simply be a killswitch or something along those lines in order to stop such a scenario?

I agree...a clone is an individual with identical cellular structure, but is really a different person with own mind. If you made a clone of yourself, you are only ensuring the survival of your DNA, not yourself.

I think it is possible that someday we will be able to find and repair the defects in our genes that cause aging...after all, people used to live for more than 1,000 years in the oh-so-mythical past.

I personally don't see what is the problem here. Sure, this is an interesting science thread, but when seeing how small and insignificant we are in this sea of infinity...a dust mote among innumerable galaxies that stretches on forever...one cannot help but to think of God.

Ah, cybernetics, now that's something I can't wait for. My goals, once such technology available to the public:

- Robot legs
- Wireless, neural internet access (with 50 million firewalls/antivirus programs. The last thing I want is someone hacking into my own brain.)
- A back up copy of my brain somewhere.

I sure hope 50 years is enough time for this stuff to come to fruition.

Well scientist have already developed brain-to-technology interface systems all they really need is some refinement now if they could only create limbs! Really all the bionic replacements i have ever seen all utilize gears and cogs and such







Now that these designs don't have their own merit but if theres one thing we have learned is that theres no way you can beat mother nature when it comes to design and thats why im wondering why they don't start basing designs on Sonny from IRobot



i know he's only a cg character in a movie but it genuinely does work in the way of movement.
