It's subtle friction from the Tupperware container that holds the universe...
No position or belief, whether religious, political or social, is valid if one has to lie to support it.--Alj Mary
Ironically, the concept of SIMPLICITY is most often misunderstood by simple-minded people. --Alj Mary
Wow, just think whats beyond that structure (magnetic pull?), then beyond the next gigantic thing we have no idea about. The universe truly is the biggest mystery to us all and thats why I love it.
If there is anything I dig, it's support of the multiverse theory.
Reminds me a lot of dark matter at first, mabey this is a stonger evidence of the thoery that majority of gravity as a fundemental force lives in another dimension, kinda works in a way. Theres something out "there" , this could be like a another puzzle piece of something big beyond our universe.... perhaps an origin
it actually reminds me a bit of Matryoshka dolls, except we're on the inside looking out and every time we find the edge of another doll, we find another beyond it.

I don't know if this is proof of something outside of the universe or not, but I'd be willing to bet that there is even without this.
...Maybe its something that showed up and is going to eat the universe as a result of firing up the large hadron collider.
We're a speck!
I read about an alternative theory that after travelling VERY long distances, photons are actually slowing down, resulting in a shift within their spectrum, thus creating the impression of movement. According to these theories, space can stretch out into infinity actually.
I'm not saying that this is the truth and this finding would not indeed be fascinating. But I think in those spheres where physics has no means of proper experimentation and they only eye they have are pure mathematical games (like in the multiverse-theory and the string-theory and so many other theories...) one shouldn't really be jumping to assumptions as quickly as these articles do. I bet no one of the scientists actually making those observations are as thrilled as you are.
Here's some further reading and listening on multiverse theory

You know, this is EXACTLY why I wish I could live on forever. So I could follow what humankind comes up with.
You are all going to Hell.
Here, here.
It may actually be possible to live forever though. What would have to be done is find the gene (or protein? I can't remember) in our cells the makes them go through apoptosis and remove it. The problem is, we'd have to find it for every type of cell in our body, IIRC.
The other solution would be to find a way tow upload the human consciousness onto a harddrive or something of the sort and then place that harddrive in a robot. Of course, the problem there is finding a harddrive big enough to house all our memories, thought processes, etc...
Still, it's something to think about, especially if there is something beyond the boundaries of our universe.
Check out my sketchbook.
theres also cryogenics!
Although the damage the icy tempretures could do to the cells is a problem and then theres the problem with reanimation since a human being can only last twenty minutes in suspended animation before being declared clinically dead.
Theres also the possibilty of nanotech or cloning
And of course, with the birth of the artist came the inevitable afterbirth - the critic.
It's galactus! :o
On a side note, if exponential growth works the way it should, this is interesting if you want to hope to live forever.

The cell damage has to do with how water expands when frozen. I remember talking to my tech school buddies about this and they always mentioned the only way successfully freeze someone without them dying is by flash freezing them.
If it ever becomes possible, I hope the guy in charge of unfreezing always greets me with "Welcome to the WOOOOOOOOOORLD OF TOMORROOOOOOOOOW!!!"
Nanotech would be a pretty feasible way of keeping our bodies maintained. The only thing that makes me a little uneasy about that is the Grey Goo scenario.Theres also the possibilty of nanotech or cloning
Cloning... I'm not so sure it would be the same. Sure, you will have a perfect copy of yourself out there, but it wouldn't be the same consciousness I don't think, unless, of course, there's away to transfer the original conscious to the new body (most probably achieved via brain transplant, once that becomes possible).
Check out my sketchbook.
You kmow my girlfriend is an aspiring nanotech scientist and whenever she and I start a conversation bout the applications of nanotech she brings grey goo up. Now I'll admit i dont know much bout nanotech but wouldn't there simply be a killswitch or something along those lines in order to stop such a scenario?
also there the possibilty of cybernetics similiar to that of ghost in a shell
And of course, with the birth of the artist came the inevitable afterbirth - the critic.
And even if you flash freeze cells, there is always the problem with thawing...ice crystals still develop during the thawing process.
I agree...a clone is an individual with identical cellular structure, but is really a different person with own mind. If you made a clone of yourself, you are only ensuring the survival of your DNA, not yourself.Originally Posted by BadGeometry
I think it is possible that someday we will be able to find and repair the defects in our genes that cause aging...after all, people used to live for more than 1,000 years in the oh-so-mythical past.
I personally don't see what is the problem here. Sure, this is an interesting science thread, but when seeing how small and insignificant we are in this sea of infinity...a dust mote among innumerable galaxies that stretches on forever...one cannot help but to think of God.Originally Posted by Craig D

Mad Cross, keep it to yourself, very politely.
Thank you.
I'm guessing it's something similar to the flow of blood cells.
But that could just the hippy in me talking.
Still, the idea of our universe being a single cell within a super-entity is totally plausible.
I'm sure paramecia couldn't possibly fathom what their lake looks like from the outside.
EvilDisco, why would this be offensive to you? It's not like I'm asking you to believe or anything.
You have the right to disagree with me, but you do not have the right to tell me what I can say or not say.

If we're smart, we'll have some way to keep them in check.
Ah, cybernetics, now that's something I can't wait for. My goals, once such technology available to the public:also there the possibilty of cybernetics similiar to that of ghost in a shell
- Robot legs
- Wireless, neural internet access (with 50 million firewalls/antivirus programs. The last thing I want is someone hacking into my own brain.)
- A back up copy of my brain somewhere.
I sure hope 50 years is enough time for this stuff to come to fruition.![]()
Check out my sketchbook.
I'm against immortality. We all owe the universe a death.

Well scientist have already developed brain-to-technology interface systems all they really need is some refinement now if they could only create limbs! Really all the bionic replacements i have ever seen all utilize gears and cogs and such
Now that these designs don't have their own merit but if theres one thing we have learned is that theres no way you can beat mother nature when it comes to design and thats why im wondering why they don't start basing designs on Sonny from IRobot
i know he's only a cg character in a movie but it genuinely does work in the way of movement.
