    Just starting out

    Hello all,
This is my first post on here, although I have been viewing for the past couple of months. I am absolutly awe struck at some of the talent on here, so much so that I actually went out and purchased a graphics tablet and fully plan to learn to do this myself. The image below is my first attempt with said pen (in photoshop) and now I am looking for help and advise on how to get better at this.

Well thank you for any advise forthcomming.
    James.

Hand/eye coordination is the most important aspect of drawing what you want and how you want it. This is hardest to learn on a graphics tablet... I went in knowing how to draw and had a big learning curve using the tablet. I'd suggest you use a good ol' pencil and paper for drawing, maybe add some color and values in to your scanned work if you're really about using the graphics tablet right now.

A cube such as this can be done with three large areas of values to explain the planes in their simplest form. You're overcomplicating things. Read up on two point perspective (and perspective in general- it's all over the 'net and art books) for a better idea on how to draw this more accurately.

Start a sketchbook in the sketchbook thread. This both keeps you motivated to post and get critique on your work/show it and keeps you and us updated on your progress. Good luck and don't give up.

The first thing I see is ...

Why does the cube have a round shadow?

It took me a while to find it, but you should check out this sketchbook thread for inspiration. It is pretty amazing.
