my first few portfolio pieces :) !!!

    hey everyone ,
i joined conceptart.org last year around this time and thats when i started sketching and painting for real. Since then i have been really serious about art and have tried REALLY hard to improve ... , i have now started working on a portfolio for myself, here is my first finished portfolio piece , i had originally made this for the last teen standing (teen challenge 50 - round two) and then had left it lying around unfinished untill earlier today .

and here is another piece i made for an upcoming game (warcry : lords of war) (c)elseware entertainment .presently working as a concept artist for elseware entertainment and i hope things will work out for us with this game (fingers crossed)

    hope you all like
    thanks

I love the top one. The color scheme in the Warcry piece is a bit distracting, however, and the picture looks like an under-exposed photo, with a lot of detail missing. I think you could do more with that one. Give it more of an HDR look and add a little more variability to the color scheme, as well as more rendering on the rocky surfaces.

I must say that the top one is my favorite as well. You have a good use of atmospheric perspecitve and have just enough detail. However, because everything elso looks so detailed, that marker stands out - and not in a good way. Just pay the same attention to weathering and color like you did with the stones right next to and that is easily fixed.

With the second image, it's very good that you have a strong light influence from the nuclear blast, which is correct. However, considering we're seeing the after affect, and just because you do such nice environments, you need to have another subtle light source. Even on a cloudy day we could see a little more details on the walls facing away from the blast, and it will help on the lighting on the figure in the foreground. Thank god you do the opposite that everyone else does and you actually follow the lighting. However, I would like to see more detail of the character, personally. And that other light source will help you do that. ^^

As for your third image, I love the color of the ocean, but it blends to much with the sky. Even when the sky is red the ocean will have more darker blue/black/brown undertones. The colors would probably end up more pinkish in color or less saturated than the color you have now. I recommend looking up some photos of sunset. Also, because the light of sunset is so rich and strong, we would see more details of the figures in the foreground. Just show a little more detail than just that thin line and I think you'll be set. Good luck on your portfolio!!

On the last one with the sky so bright it should be lighting up the land a lot more. I agree that the first one is your best except for that stone.

yes the stone in the first one seems really tacked on i see no reason so far as
to y it should be their so maybe just choppie it off. besides that the first
    looks really good.

The second well its really not my favorite the whole thing has a good color schem
but looks rather flat because every object has around the same values for evry thing
some depth in the far reaching rock platues might help un flatten it but i think the foreground
might need to have more contrast im really not sure so maybe some pictures of an atomic blast
would help but im not sure if theirs ones for the exact moment in the blast your going for
the work looks good so just keep studing it.
