I like your nervous and expressive linework! Reminds me of some expressionism artists of 20th century. Keep up your hard work! ^__^

Nice hands there. To answer your question about which sketchbooks I use, I prefer this one:

    http://www.gordonharris.co.nz/hahn-s...H10628353.html

that price is New Zealand Dollars and is usually on sale for cheaper here. But that has all the paper stock info etc there.

Lav, good to see some more work. You were after feedback on the portrait last page. I think its intentionally a bit odd though. So some anatomy, lighting things are putting it not very accurate but still for a quick painting, The guy looks fearful or worried.

Thanks for the feedback and answers everyone, i feel embarrassed about some of the crappy updates, I still have a long road ahead of me

2 small sketchbook updates and some model drawings, I really didn't feel like scanning everyone of them, they're too big for my scanner anyway. I got quite the negative feedback from my teachers on them, they want me to be less technical with anatomy and be more artistic in my drawings, would have been handy if they pointed that out while i was making them instead of waiting till the end when they have to give grades >.< Ah well, live and learn i guess

Eventhough my school isn't fond of anatomy studies (which is a bit absurd, I think they fear it would restrict us from doing intuitive drawings and make us more rigid) I'm planning to do more studies in my free time, at least once a week hand studies. If anyone has a good suggestion on where to find good reference pictures on figure drawing please let me know, I prefer them a lot more than drawing off other drawings from anatomy books

very nice line work on those figures, it's amazing how you draw them without going over your lines, something i'd like to be able to do in due time for photo references you should try http://characterdesigns.com/ they have extensive photo sets of nude and costumed figures.

Thanks for the link Voodoo, I'll be using it for my studies
And thanks to you as well Miycko, I already know that site tho, it's great but doesn't get updated anymore. On some of those figure drawings i made a sketch first in pencil and then drew over them in ink in one line so that's not difficult to do at all but some of them and most of my sketchbook drawings are directly in one line in ink so it's usually hit or miss. I learned that by doing fast figure drawings (30 secs) and trying not to pull your pen from the paper, you should try it too it's really fun in my opinion

Anyway, I know I said i had to do more studies, I'll update them later, for now I'd love to get some crits on this Work in Progress.

very nice update, i likey the lineart is great, i have no crits there and i'm glad i've caught you before going into light & shadow so i can pretend to have knowledge about a subject i barely understand myself to give your painting a greater color range, for your lights you'll want use brighter version of the base color mixed with your light color of the light source and for shadows a slightly different color than just a darker tone of the base metarial, you can mix in some blue/purple for example, hope that's helpful

Those are really great crits Miycko, I tried to use them but I think I'm still afraid to push myself, but on the other hand, I'm not really sure how much it's really worth trying to shade when I don't have a wacom, I really need the pen pressure
    What do you guys think?

Went through you whole Sketchbook. Lots of great changes and improvement!
You definitely love drawing just for the sake of it. That's awesome.
    Can't wait to see more.

Thank you CarbonBased. i must say tho, eventhough I think I've made progress since the beginning of the sketchbook I'm really embarrassed to look back, it's liek someone coming in your room when you're gone and finding all your personal and embarrassing things almost makes me want to just create a new sketchbook but I guess it's good to see what things i'm still struggling with and what things i'm improving.

Speaking of struggling, I tried to shadow the Boy Blue like a retard with my mouse... I think i either need to give it a rather cartoony and sharp values since i won't be able to do anything good without pen pressure and otherwise I'd have to leave the pendrawing out because right now it's clashing. Or maybe just leave it without shadows and highlights?

    Bouillabaisse, mon ami!
    But who?
    How?
How did you turned on the heat so fast and swiftly?
I was just a bit away, and you switched from the radiator to a gladiator.
Painting digitally without a tablet and pen, I just cannot imagine that,
I know some of them can do that relatively effectively, but I would
never advice that to any of the patients. Get a tablet as soon
as you can, even the lowest price model will do the job, but
you should aim for some of the Wacom models.
    Putting those textures down on
your painting is cool, but the negative effect of them, is that
they will really flatten your pieces. Except if that was your attention.
And I just wanted to say that you are doing great and being
fantastic for posting this often lately.

I like the boy in blue. haha it's too bad you only have a mouse to do the shadows, it must take forever D:
I like it without shadows and highlights, but why don't you try some flat shadows, without blending, and see how it looks?

I like the experimental stuff you're doing, and the naive linework at places.
Having no tablet can prove to be problematic, but if you insist on using a mouse, work with semi-hard brushes and pick up the midtones as you go and use them to extend the value range, and use layers to your advantage.
    Keep it up.

I'd go for a cartoony feel.. But you probably decided about it already and I really, really far from this type of creative stuff But it definitely needs highlights and shadows. I'm looking forward to seeing it finished

The trumpet guy went swiftly from light to shadow. Now
the mist of darkness is eating him up from behind. The rose
and the skull combination is gentle and sweet at the same time.
Oh, how you changed the sunshine. The experimental film about
morning routines is looking promising. I can feel the power as he
is emptying his nasty bladder after a hard drinking night on the
toilet seat. A mixture of cosmic universal fumes are going through
his freshly regenerated mind as he squeezes his abdominal muscles.
No flower will survive this agonizing situation in the house.
It is a powerful way, how you portrayed the wiggling stage of
this beautiful lady in the bed at 07:15. Her breasts are shaped
nicely and they feel hard on the first touch. You have mastered
to bring some magical vibes from the under earth to this
sunny world. Proud what is we are, because of you.

The yawns are very expressive, cool! If you are interested in facial expressions I recommend "The artists guide to facial expressions" by Faigin. I sometimes use this website for figure drawing refs: http://lovecastle.org/draw/.

I'd love to see more figure drawings.

Ps: where are those hand studies you promised?

It is a brutal hair ripping female fight above, a real
barn burner. I like your 'take no prisoner' attitude,
and I fancy how that naked female holds that little
parasite creature. It will suck her blood. Hard.
Boy Blue got out swiftly. I can purely experience
the strong connection between his mind, trumpet,
and the rose. And the skull. Stellar job on this.
You make some unbelievable things sometimes.

I like the sketch of the woman with the red background, I think it's a very good composition. It's pretty cool!
I only have one small crit, the hands studies you posted, the closed hand seems like the palm is too small, other than that the rest look pretty good!
    Good luck with animation school
