hey. Im 18. Male. I like to draw and have been taking it seriously since late june 2008, although i have been drawing through out my life (art lessons and such when i was a kid) and decided to take it seriously in hopes of being a comic book artist one day, although i think i'll be a civil engineer before hand so i can have some sort of money backup. I do plan on making a wicked awesome web comic during college once i get better at painting and everything else xD

I have very little things to do around my house. I like to play Magic (the card game). Im a very exciting person as you can see.

lol thats about it. My only talent is drawing. My painting skills are bleh...


ummm i want hardcore critiques so dont be afraid to tell me i suck, as long as you give me a reason behind it. You dont have to worry about hurting my feelings.

k, i got me money in the morning. So i would like someone answer my above question within 2 hours please. Sorry to sound a little demanding but i have to take the bus to the shop and since i dont wanna waste all of my afternoon getting there i want an answer pretty fast.

Size doesn't matter to much unless it's really small. I have a small wacom tablet... and when I used a huge ass one over the summer it was the best time of my life!

Big tablets are less frustrating than small tablets. Once you the small tablet you will start to realize the hardships it will bring. But still, it's not that bad.. besides the frustrating hand movement and zooming in and out unless you have a big screen for more resolution.

Hi and so glad I talked you into a sketch book!!!!! badgered you into submission! I just have a small wacom tab and pen and good to go, actually mine is a hand me down from my boyfriend. It is about 1ft and I like it this size because I can take it with me, the larger one's are harder to carry around, Anything is actually good to start with!! You go get them with this SB and I will visit often as I said!! I like what you started with, I know you are using a mouse and pretty impressive for mouse work, try to smooth the patchy parts in lower right portion a little more. Welcome and I will like this thread!!!!! Kelly

and i know what you mean, i just didn't notice the little problem cause of the lighting in the room at the time. Anyways i think i'll get the tablet now.

oh hate to double post, but is it worth getting the drawing tablet i have listed above? or should i try going for something else thats cheaper?

so i gots me tablet, here is my first work...its a piece of crap xD

im not being hard on my self or anything, its just that im not really used to drawing on the computer no mores. So it'll take me a week or so until i get to par with my paper drawing. Oh and if your wondering whats with the weird guy and hand around the female body...i was bored. So dont comment on those things seriously. I already know whats wrong with the guys arms and the hand.

Although i like the female body, i think i did an a-ok job on it, not to bad. Could be better but oh well xD

PS: I dont draw that small, i just decreased the size so i can save it on the site.

so last stuff before i go to bed. I admit the last one with his arm isn't done...and the only one i really like in this pic is the female body. Anyways, I really got to get used to PS, shading is harder now. I used to smudge using my finger (i should scan in a image to show) and now i really can't do that. Which kinda sucks, cause shading is what makes most of my pics look better.

Oh well i shall march forward!!!!

hey 57, just use a new doc and start painting, to control the flow use the flow button at the top and put it to 50% and this will help with the shading... even 20%, but try 50... also in the photo shop guide there are some little tutorial exercises, that's how I learned... it is all practice and just getting used to photoshop... do a doodle and keep practicing... you'll do it and post, we'll go from there... K

ya i like how i shaded around the stomach area.

you put your flow to 50%? i put mine at 40% with the opacity (im not sure if thats right, im tired can't be bothered with minor errors) thing to 60%; possibly to low?

Anyways i'll be uploading one of my sketches from my book soon, i did it at school but didn't have the time for fixing it up due to the scanner.

anyways anyways. Last sketches before bed. I may paint the girl with the wing. Oh and the girl under her is kinda bad. I was practicing with the trapezoid style skeleton thingy. I find it easier for 3 quarter views like that, as well as down-up/up-down views. But im not totally used to it and have to reference a bit.

Oh and i know i've been drawing the same girl in the same pose for awhile, but i just like that pose, and i find it good to help me with photoshop.

PS: i like the wing. Tis interesting.

Don't mess with the 40% opacity and try to use the flow as high as you can, this will give you sharper edges, you can lower the Flow for blending if you want -- try to learn to really control just using you... the sketches will be sharper like when you sketch in your book!! I like the wings!! The last study of the girl looks a bit stiff, find a more challenging study!! It's on and now I'm on your case!!! Doing great.

hey!, nice figures, but do some more...and try to do a more constant and solid line, not a "hairy" one..make one stroke and no severals to ur lineart..keep workin'!!!

Thanks jail, i like the wing to. Its funny i made that wing separate layer without even thinking of putting it on her.

- and i know my sketches are slow, but im trying to control my pressure on the tablet better. I'll also try making smoother lines now.

one last pic. I decided to to change the opacity to 50% and flow to 70%

i think the sketches are a bit less hairy. Sorry about that before, all of my sketches are hairy at first and messy. I usually take time to clean them up...basically why it takes me so long to make some. This time it only took me around 5-7 minutes. But i was distracted by a television show, so it was more like a 10 - 15 minute thing.

so i decided to paint my one figure with the one wing, i gave her a head as well... Im not very good at drawing heads from far away, i can draw portraits pretty well, but i always mess up on the eyes from far away for some reason... well w/e i'll work on that later, until then have fun looking at the gas mask angel xD

i actually call her a "patch work angel" b/c the head looks like it was just patched up on her.

anyways just a w.i.p.

PS: i really like using the burn and dodge tool, those tools are probably the best shading/lighting tools used with the brush.

hey some sketches. i know they aren't much. I was gonna draw more, but my brush stopped working in photoshop for some reason. Also i haven't put much on b/c i was playing fable 2 today xD awesome game, its a bit boring starting off but its pretty good. The gameplay could have been a little bit more challenging...i made my character look like a pimp. A magic casting pimp xD

yes the human body is quite the pain. I find drawing the side view is the most difficult for some reason.

as you can see im not very good at drawing faces. And his hair is crap.

anyways, body is alright i suppose, i didn't much effort into the hands as its more of a rough then anything.

this is for the daily sketch group. oh and the hand with the basic skeleton is just to help me draw hands, i know its a little bad, as i wasn't focusing on detail but shape.
