Hey Ang! I've not been on CA in a while so I've not been keeping track of your awesome improvements. Your Cate caricature is fantastic, particularly the values and colours!

I'm gonna start up a sketch book tomorrow. I think it's about time!

Keep up the good work hun and I hope all's well!

Thanks Dizon - I know I have to keep up the standard now <gulp!> Thank you for your invaluable insight (throughout I mean )

I'm looking forward to finishing Kylie...Audrey just reminded me of a bird when I exaggerated her eyes (and because she's so thin) was just a doodle really, I'm going to do her as Holly Golightly for a finished piece.

Hellooo Belinda!! Thanks very much for the compliment, I'm well thanks, into my 2nd month of a new job (just switchboard work but it pays the bills) where are you now? x Can't wait to see your SB! x

    Wooo Neverwhere! Love your caricatures!

The last (coloured) one could use some stronger shadows on faces, to help really bring them out.

If you ever get a chance, you should try etching copper plates to make prints!!! It's really fun!!! And I read that book in middle school, it is really wonderful.
PS- Guess who's next on my list of people to draw, mwahahaha...

    Eh up Gogojojo

You must be psychic that's what I'm doing! 4 copper plates and then I'm going to silver plate them. Doing 'Silver screen sirens' caricatures. If they turn out well I'll hopefully get them exhibited in the local art house cinema

I'll make sure I post the progress

Ooh you drawing me??! excellent! cheers! You're on my list too..mwaha!

Wow lots of great new stuff in here. As always I love your charictures. Though the piece that really sticks out to me right now as being your best is post #224 the realistic portrait. The lighting and color in that is positively glowing. I dig it. On top of that I can't believe you did it so fast!
"This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -Douglas Adams

    Thank you!
I wanna ask, what kind of printing process do you use? Cause the etched parts look pretty smooth. Also what do you use to cover the parts that you don't want to etch? I use asphaltum (I can't spell).

Cheers Granny! Glad you like it!! you're new hair-do and the serene expression just screamed MONK! but you had to kick ass too Am in the process of doing more but just finishing off a commission at the mo...(not as much fun though)

Hiya Gogo I'm doing Photo-Etching, the metal is covered with light sensitive film (not sure what it's called, I'm using someone elses studio) and you apply that in a dark room, expose it to UV rays (a modified light box) and then stick it in a solution of 10ml of Bicarbonate of Soda to 1L of warm water and it washes away the unexposed bits Is that similar to using asphaltum? (I don't know how to spell it either!)

Ah, I thought it would be a photo-sensitive thing, just call it a hunch. With my process, we cover the copper plate in asphaltum, and scrape away the areas that we want to etch with a stylus. Then we etch the plates with ferric acid. There's also lots of techniques for shades, have you heard of soft ground or aqua-tint? Are the prints relief prints or intaglio prints?

Sorry I ask so many questions, it's just cool to find another print maker! Sometime I'll post a photo of the printing press I made with a bottlejack!!!

Hiya Gogo - I'm just starting out etching so I've got alot to learn, the asphaltum sounds interesting! I don't know about any shading techniques, I'd be interested in hearing more though Not sure what relief and intaglio means sorry, what's that? I don't mind questions at all, just sorry I'm answering with more questions!

Wow, sorry this took so long. The main difference between relief and intaglio printing is that the inked surface is raised on relief prints, while the whole surface is inked in intaglio prints, and then the ink is removed except for in depressions in the surface of the plate(see diagram A)

Sorry I posted this in your sketchbook, didn't know where else to put the picture And sorry I'm no good at explaining, that's why I gave you that link! And sorry I say sorry a lot!
