    Music for Drawing

I have some songs I love to play when I need to get started drawing omn my own.

I'm looking for super motivational, get off your ass (and back on) and draw music. So far, I've got:

    Curtain Call - Eminem
Eye of the Tiger - Soul Survivor
    Remember the Name -Fort Minor
We Are the Champions - Queen
    What's Stopping You? - Semisonic
Sixteen Tons - Tennessee Ford ('Cuz no one wants to work in a coal mine)

    Got anything to add?
    Do you Mentler?

    Booting up a new sketchbook.

Depends what it is your gonna draw..

Industrial landscape, steampunk, etc : industrial music, rock?

Gangsta's, design orientated and funky : Hip hop?

Fantasy stuff : LOTR soundtrack, and rock?

Naked chicks : hmm, porn music?

    Experiment!

It depends a lot on the tone of what I'm drawing

    mellow- something like Massive Attack
nihilistic/dark-Ministry, Severed Head of State or World Burns To Death
    funn/funny-Blanks 77, the Vandals
    etc.

Sometimes when sketching I like to have music, but other times I can't get into my art as much as I'd like to when music is playing, I like to find my own rythm when painting or drawing, Unless there are couple really good songs that I'd like to make art to, I prefer to keep the music off.

I found that music data from a RPG game Witcher goes with pretty much everything, really neat, but right now I'm stuck on Jimi Hendrix and John Frusciante. Depends on the mood really.

Just found a cd by a band called hybrid thats pretty awesome. It's a compilation, remixes of orchestration and ambient music, and the second cd is mostly straight trance remixes. Its pretty chill, if thats what your looking for.

Their regular albums are pretty awesome too.

My music varies based on what I'm drawing, so if I'm drawing these:

Fighter aircraft - Techno, Ace Combat soundtracks

Celtic-based art - Celtic (Anuna, KiRite and Tsugunai: A Cinnuinuit by Yasunori Mitsuda)

Contemplative art - Piano pieces (Final Fantasy IV Piano Collections)

General/Whatever Goes - Either Devil May Cry soundtrack, SHMUP soundtracks (Thunder Force V, Ikaruga, Cave), Power metal

Heh, that's only if you're talking about the emo lyrics of DMC 3 and 4. Me? I stick to the first one - the original. No emo/dark singing for me, please. Give me the music like the Nero Angelo battle track or Griffon fight theme.

Yeah the original soundtrack was great. I guess the soundtracks follow the games.. save DMC2

    Anyway.
Life Drawing - trip-hop - Massive Attack, DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, etc.
or, Ambient - Art by Snipers, Autechre, Telefon Tel Aviv, Sasha
Expressive painting - House - Daft Punk, St. Germain

Since my own creative designs are usually sci-fi craziness with mecha and future soldiers wielding weapons firing glowing blue stuff:
Winter War by Black Sun Empire & Noisia. It really makes me think of future soldiers battling with energy weapons in a Siberian snowstorm. I guess it also helps that I listened to it a lot while playing Timesplitters, but I thought of it quite a bit beforehand.

    Although, I do love Sinthetix!

Try some Prodigy. They have high paced fast beats and lots of fire in their music. That's who I use when I want get up and work. I would recommend their album Fat of the Land, but Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned has some decent tracks to it. Plus, very minimal on lyrics.

Another good one is Jamiroquai. His still has some fast beats, but is more calming then Prodigy.

But one thing im sure we already know, don't listen to it if you cant stand it. Like me, I cant stand Eminem or Tool, and im sure alot of people here cant stand the two bands I said. You have to know you enjoy the music to get into the groove of it. So for them most part, just experiment with new music and find the things you like.

somewhere along the lines of aphex twin(also very good), but possibly even more fucked up. mixed with classical string mainly.

    Always think about:
    lighting! design! perspective! proportion!
    And (self)motivation is still everything.

I find that usually I like listening to a lot of music with no lyrics or where the lyrics themselves aren't a distraction. Most of the time the genres include soundscape, classical, and maybe some light jazz. I'm really into a lot of soundtrack stuff.

Porcupine Tree's delerium stuff is really good to draw too and it's probably the trippiest music EVER made. My favorite is The Sky Moves Sideways but Voyage 34 is the trippiest thing ever. Both are awesome to draw too.
