Hey, my dad went to Humboldt State. Nice town.

Your life drawings are really nice and show a lot of progression. (and post 53 is sweet) My only crit at the moment is that the anatomy in that dinosaur you posted is way off. Try studying some general animal anatomy: it can vastly improve the way you draw all manner of organisms, including people.

Aaron Death: Oh god that would be awesome if it was.

    Thanks!

Zweit: Ya, it's nice enough, I need more art in my life though, so i'm going to art school in san francisco.

Thanks for the crit, but i'm way ahead of you I went to the local zoo and did some sketches, then i did some more dino drawings.

I'll have a buttload of life drawings up soon but for now here's some digi stuff.

The girl was for a project in my graphic design class, she went on a flyer for a fashion show, and the landscape thumbs are just some imagined landscapes i put together pretty fast...i figure i need to work on color and landscapes.

Cool stuff lately, the fashion painting is really cool!

The last environment studies look a bit muddy, try to use more hues and avoid pure blacks and white for darker and lighter colours. Keep it up!

Hey, guy. Nice sketchbook you've got.

You're on the right track to excelling at capturing from life, but there's a massive disconnect between your observation and imagination studies. Try to be aware of what you've learned from your life sessions and the old masters and put it into practice when working from your mind. It'll make your skill shine!

Also, in your digital paintings, don't be afraid to push your values to both extremes. Make your shadows darker and highlights brighter. What you've been doing thus far makes otherwise competent value studies appear drowned out, muddy, and amateur. I'd also recommend not blending so heavily in the future. Take Sublimus' advice to heart and remember that color/value is all about edge control. For example, your creature thumbs all have clearly defined silhouettes, but when trying to read them beyond that, the details aren't defined and they come across as flat billboards.

You've got some great anatomy stuff in here, so, I'll be watching you. Keep it up!

    Hi Dee,

Haven't been in in a while, great progress!
The animal sketches at the top of the page are real good, and it seemed to have helped bring to life your own creator designs as well (which are just awesome by the way!)

Great digi studies as well, awesome use of colour. Do you use the eye dropper tool? If so, try not too. You'll learn colour much faster that way!

And the life drawing are awesome great, nice work all in all

    Givin' you stars,

Thanks for the visit in my thread too Deelock!

    Cheers,
    matt

    Hey guys!

I'm back to updating after a 3 week break, those video games wont play themselves. I'll be updating more after I photograph my life drawings from last semester, not all of them but the best one's for you lovely people.

    ninjacat11: Thanks man, I'm trying.

Seithe: Thanks for the great comments and critiques, this is definitely the kind of advice i need at this point. I always feel that when i go to the full extent in the spectrum from black to white in a single drawing i find a way to muck it up and make it look either too digital or too comic bookey. But i'll try to push my values more and i understand the need for it.

    Thanks again!

JailHouseRock2: I think that you asking if i used the eye dropper tool is a great complement I definitely did not seeing as they were from life. Thanks for the comments about my animal and creature sketches, it's nice to do something other than people. It's a challenge because i've never really studied how animals really look and work and everything, but it's been fun so far.

Here's some pages out of my sketchbook from the past month or so, really didn't do much drawing and I'm ashamed.

Nice update, bro! You're really getting those figures.

One crit for you though. On this one, you've done a nice job all around, but one thing stuck out to me. There is a spot on the arm that the value goes all the way up to the light values. Keep you shadows in the shadows value range. You should always be able to quick read the big shadow shape, and the big light shape. I did a quick paintover to show what I mean.

I did do this painting last night and now I'm uploading it

The shadows on the abs are all crap but there was a podium in the way in my reference so they're invented...again...not a good excuse...

You've got some really great inside contours here. You should really try and bring out the major forms though- some of these look pretty flat.

Watch that far arm though, its like t-rex tiny! (unless it is supposed to be foreshortened, in which case that would need to be better explained)

Dylan, you've got some very nice work here, the figure's are looking good and it's nice to see the sheer number of studies you've got going (keep up the bridgman!). Looking at your still life stuff at least, the one piece of advice I can offer is- MEASURE! The Loomis and Bridgman and whatnot will go a long way towards making your figures from life more accurate, but you need to really put that pencil/measuring stick to work and take the time to get all the placements right. That goes for figures and especially still life. It's drudgery, but it pays off and will really go a long way towards training you to really see.

I read in another thread that you're going to the Academy, you already there or are you starting in the Fall?
